    Indeed.
    "Leave it" is easily trained:
    Short leash your pup.
Drop a treat or kibble a few feet away. Make him/her "sit".
Let the dog fixate on the treat.
Then use another treat to distract...but do not give the distraction treat until the dog can "leave" the treat on the ground.
Repeat until the dog can "leave it" without the reward of treat.
I suggest a prong collar to "keep" the dog and avoid choking.
*Pro Tip- if your dog is stubborn, dab a little hot sauce on the dropped "leave it" treat.
My pup is about 90% on this "leave it" exercise. I work it into our training regularly.
But, she is a dog. And all the training in the world may not work the "leave it" command if a frog, snake, or lizard catches her eye.
That's what E-collars are for.

Where did you find your collar? How much was it. I can only find bad ones that you can't control. Do you know brand?

Garmin is often preferred by the pros.
But Dogtra and Sport dog are also good e-collars.

I just ordered the Garmin 550 pro. Partly because of the wide range of "nick" and it has vibrate. And one mile range.
It also can Controll multiple dogs with the one transmitter if you have the need.
Another cool feature...the collar has lights you can turn on with the handheld transmitter. Great for early morning when setting up. Or dusk.

Nova turned 11 months old a couple of days ago while on his first hunting trip and I couldn't be happier with him. We harvested a spruce and ruff grouse first thing this morning to close out the trip, which seems way too short but it was a great one.

First day drove 6 hours and started hunting around noon, wore the guy out pretty good and we both slept in the back of the truck.

Weather was the worst, record high Sunday of 84 which is way too hot and this morning his water bowl was frozen with half an inch of ice on top. Take the cold weather for hunting anytime over heat. Lots of rain and wind but the pup was always ready to hunt.

Of course he didn't meet a stream, lake or beaver pond he didn't love
    [IMG]
Maybe he thinks he is a beaver instead of a Toller?

Have frozen wings at home but dragging a freshly harvested bird into the brush back at camp and making the dog find it helps keep the focus where it belongs. Until they get a little too exuberant, at this point he has figured the game out

Home for a week then back North for a week. Then a couple days break and head to SD for 2 weeks and ducks in the morning and pheasants in the afternoons, provided life allows it and I sure hope it does.

Yeah Steve and Lydia at Gundog Supply have treated me right highly recommend them. I have the Garmin Alpha with a TT15 which is likely overkill for most people and it is spendy. I also like Dogtra and have a 2 dog set still. Look at the features you want but most importantly know how to use a collar there is a lot to it and you can do more harm than good if used incorrectly! I seldom use anything other than vibrate for correction and that is just to get his attention.

    I agree. Steve is genuine.
I also agree on the e-collar use. I did extensive research and consulted w my trainer extensively on the use.

Another great source for info is GunDogForum.
    Many pros in that site.

Our two miscreants. Both are rescues from the local boxer dog rescue. Griffin is the brindle sitting on Kirby (the flashy fawn).

Personally I'd never do more than a vibration anyway I just want to do it at more than 4 feet away. And the light on the collar feature sounds great

One of my all time favorite breeds. Such goofy dogs and so much fun to play with. Our neighbors have one named Buster and he's a big ol' goofball.

They largely burn each other's energy. They alternate playing and sleeping all day, every day.

Our firs Boxer was named Buster. Still the absolute best dog I've ever had. These two are good boys, but the Bus was in a league of his own.

Two dogs means either they burn each other out by playing together all day OR you have twice as much work to do to get them tired haha

I want another pup as a buddy for my Lab.
If I had the property I'd have 3 or 4 more.
But one keeps me busy and broke. L0L.
