So I recently bought my Tacoma and my maintenance light flashes like 6 times when I start the engine but then turns off, anyone know what that's for or is it like reminder for something like oil change etc. or is there a way to make it stop? Thanks to anyone that can help me out

change oil and reset it. to reset it turn key to on, then hold the OD, crank the ignition while holding the OD and youll see lines, then zeros, then it is reset.

It starts blinking then goes off at 4500 miles. At 5000 it will stay on. You have to have TRIP A selected and no "cranking" required. Once TRIP A is selected push and hold the trip reset button in while quickly turning the ignition to ON. Then it will count down as noted.

Well he knows how to fix it but not why.

It flashes when you're within a certain amount of miles before you're due for an oil change.
It stays illuminated when you hit that mileage number and need an oil change.

More info in the owners manual.

    On my 2013, it is:
1.While truck is running put odometer in trip A.
    2.Turn truck off.
3.Hold trip button while turning key to on position
Odometer shows dashes that disappear one by one.
This method was different than my 2006.
It is in the owners manual page 323

yeah what rock lobster said....I just had to do it hahahaha

    Okay.

Cranking isn't needed though, nor part of the normal process.

Would have to point to it.... It was something about the filter was defective, and it gave me an oil bath... This was awhile ago.
