All I know is watching JT in an interview is like watching a 8 year old struggle in their first public speaking contest. The Mansbridge interviews with each candidate was a real eye opener on who actually knows what and how each candidate feels. I do NOT like Harper for the record but their party with way things are today makes most sense to me. I lived through the NEP of father Trudeau which crippled the west for years with 20%+ mortgage rates and the industry was 100% dead. I've seen what promises the NDP follows through with the recent awarding of their leadership in Alberta. People in Alberta wanted the PCs out so bad they didn't vote, those who did voted whoever had the numbers, pure emotion. Now looking at the polls they sure are not supporting the NDP in the federal election and thats a slow wake up call IMO.

Glad to see more people voting for sure, however all these lame pot legal cards, indian BS, etc etc... is pure smoke and mirrors on all parties. I truly fear that if Liberals get to run things federally we could be pushed into a Depression and thats a very serious consideration as it is very evident Trudeau is clue less and the cost of living in Ontario now because of the Liberals,,, that should speak volumes....

Free trade works in Canada's favor with most of the nations in to TPP. We are a small market that thrives when we can export our raw materials and agricultural products efficiently and for maximum dollar. This agreement, hopefully, should allow for that. If it does all of the parties should be for it, no matter what their stance is on each others opinions or free trade in general.

I am not against free trade, hell, it has helped me personally, but when I look around and see the closed saw mills and the closed ship building yards, and a full time job at Costco about as good as it's going to get for some folks I worry.

My only concern is what happens to the well paying jobs that might now at risk.

Even Harper admits the Auto Sector will not be happy and all you have to do is drive a little north of me to see raw logs that are driving past closed down mills to be shipped overseas.

A lot of communities suffered when that came about... and now the the soft wood lumber agreement has expired with the US, here we go again with our southern neighbors.

The number 1 industry around here right now is building condos - that is not exporting.

Hilliary came out against the TPP and the pipe line so we may have a tough go if she is elected President of the World.

I'll go out on a limb and say they are, just go mid island and watch the parade of full logging trucks heading out to the barges past all the closed down mills

    Yeah I know

Scary if we have no control over how much can get sent out as raw logs

The amount of logs going out in the last decade has been insane , in 2014 alone , the amount of logs exported as raw logs from BC equals the amount that would fill logging trucks parked nose to tail stretching from Vancouver to Thunder Bay , Ontario . Similar volumes in the 5 years prior to that too .

Mostly from Crown Land , where's the jobs for the BC taxpayers in that beyond the faller , yarder , trucker and dock worker ?

Bingo OZ, I am no expert on the Forestry Industry but from time to time I read about the small employee owned mills that are trying to survive that are forced to shut down because they can't source raw logs, why, because the big off shore corporations running the industry get a better return by sending the raw logs abroad... Just sayin'

It is surprizing how this industry is now basically controlled by off shore corporations, the Mac Blos of the industry are nothing but memories now.

So we force the market to buy raw logs elsewhere and then we don't have even those four jobs. I'm not sure there is a perfect solution to the raw materials export problem. I really mean that line. If there was an easy answer to that problem it wouldn't be a problem.

Ah, so it's a foreign ownership problem? As in the logs could be processed here but the trade is controlled by big corporations?

There used to be a condition of tenure that a TFL had to supply a certain amount of timber to local mills in the area , Provincial Liberals killed that one which led to the increase in raw log exports , and I think you missed my point that the logging companies are making money selling trees from Crown land with limited benefit to the BC taxpayers and workers , thats why the Pulp and Paper Union and the USW union oppose it
