I believe you nailed it with the reasons for both and what they offer. Great write-up, easy to read and follow.

    That was a nice review.

One thing, my friend has a 1992 Chevy with clocksprings on the hood hinges that lifts the hood and holds it in place. That's a fifty cent item, no need for struts or the Tacoma hood brace.

I love how Mark Williams from pickuptrucks.com said in his review that torque came on early and strong. lol What a joke. Either that or Toyota chips the test fleet before journalists arrive on those vehicles.

Have to disagree with the interior materials comparison. GM is known (and has been for years) as the kings of seas of hard plastics and just generally cheap looking/feeling interiors - also painfully slow audio/entertainment interface. Seems to me Toyota makes better use of, limits the use of, and has a higher quality of hard plastic use throughout the cabin. The fit and finish is stronger inside and out on Tacoma. The initial build quality for the GM twins (especially the Colorado.. the Canyon is a step up from her sister on materials/finish) is just not quite up to Toyota level yet.

Its more of a biography of the Tacoma then a review but good job nonetheless

What's weird to me is when Toyota brought out the GenI Tundra it sold better than any initial offering in North America in Toyota history, but they closed the Indiana plant after only seven years of production.

The truck was selling great, great quality, most of them are still on the road, 250,000 trucks a year. NUMMI in Fremont was still going producing GenI Tacomas that everybody liked.

Between the two plants they were putting out 500,000 trucks per year that people liked, a small, cheap, badass offroad truck and a 3/4 fullsize badass truck that could haul, tow, go offroad with amenities.

Then, bam, no more Indiana plant producing Tundras, no more Fremont, consolidate them into the San Antonio plant, upsize both the Tundra and the Tacoma hoping for more sales of both.

In retrospect, it was a poor corporate decision.
