Took a pic of the amplifier harness, will get that uploaded by the end of today. Slots 3 and 6 are vacant which is good for wiring but now I need to get 2 terminals for those slots.

Great idea. Didn't realize how convenient the lighted ignition was on my Maxima until I traded it in on the Tacoma.

Also didn't realize the 4x4 switch was unlit until I went to use it in the dark a couple of weeks ago. Ordered the kit to light that today.

Current Status: I got a set of terminals I ordered that came in on Friday. I was gone all weekend so haven't messed with it yet. School is going to be nuts this week but the plan is to finish up this mod this relaxing weekend. Will get some good pics and provide a full pictorial.

So far tested terminal fitment on the immobilizer pins and they work. Hopefully the pins fit in the Toyota harness. Haven't taken the steering plastics off again.

I haven't forgotten about this thread...I'm just sitting on the parts for when I have time to do everything. The on time I had a chance all my stereo upgrades came in so I went ahead and installed all that instead.

Sorry guys, I dropped the ball on getting this done in a timely manner. I have the wires with pins and just need to get it all wired in. I would like to do it tomorrow, but will probably have to wait until the weekend. Going to use posi-taps to hopefully tap into dome light circuit. My goal is to have it come on with the dome light, but I am also hoping to wire it up in a way that it will stay on while the dash lights are lit. That is the plan at least.

Tap into the light circuit for the AC controls, it's right in that area...
Looking forward to your final write up, so I can do my truck!

That a good idea that is what the directions for the heated mirrors had us do. There is a solid green, and a striped green wire behind the controls. That way it will always be on

Sweet, this is on my eventual to do list... Had forgotten about it though. I like you idea of having it come on with the dome lights and also if the headlights are on.

Okay so here is my wiring I have come up with. I was hoping someone could check my idea and let me know if it will work or not. I couldn't find anywhere were anyone used a bunch of negatives in their relay circuit.

So I want to use an SPDT relay to essentially power the ignition ring LED in 2 modes so to speak. One mode allowing it to turn on when the door opens (or on unlock with keyfob), and the other mode is when the dash lights are on with ignition. What I planned to do is go by the diagram below.

Mode 1: The coil power (leads 85/86) will be off when the truck is off, since the dash circuit is not on. So in this state, leads 30 and 87a will be connected. Lead 30 will be the ground going to the LED (-), and 87a will be the dome trigger wire. This should function in the same exact manner as if I connected the LED into the dome circuit like I have seen other people do.

Mode 2: (when ignition is on and dash lights are on) the relay will switch to 30 and 87 since the coil will now be powered (leads 85/86). 87 will be a ground wire.

The LED (+) will come from a constant hot (+) source.

Your wiring is off. 30 should be your +12v constant. 85 or 86 is ground to chassis. 85 or 86 is the +12v input aka your trigger source. 87 is your +12v to your LED.

    30- +12v constant
    85- Ground
86- Switched power source (your AC light wire)
    87- to your + LED

Now, if you are going to add in another power source, like your dome light, you would attach a second wire to 86 from your dome light. You'll want to wire in diodes coming off your wires attaching to the 86 pin so voltage can't flow back on itself, for safety. You could also pick up a DPDT relay, essentially, it's two spdt relays in one shell. wire one circuit per set of pins.

One thing I would mention is that you should make sure your dome light is off before turning on your headlights. Otherwise, you're going to feed x2 the voltage to the same LED wire. That will probably melt your resistor.
