That's the interval I use. The new Tacoma is 0w-20 IIRC so you'll have to use synthetic oil too.

For those asking about fuel mileage, I have about 175 km on the truck now, averaging 13.5 km/100 L, about 3/4 highway and 1/4 city driving.

17.42 mpg. It should do better over time. A few guys are posting closer to 21 mpg after breakin on the USA side. Even my V8 F150 gets around 20 mpg.

Yes, 0W-20 is only synthetic, which is what I use in all my vehicles anyway.

Jeez, really? I got 16.5L/100km with the Ecoboost.

I'll be pumped to start with 13.5L and hopefully get better from there. Curious to see the manual vs auto difference as well.

What's the consensus break-in time before seeing better mpg? 5000 miles or so?

I'm pretty happy with the mileage already... If it improves, great! But it's better than my Subaru was lol

Really really. This picture is from 2.5 hours of which 45 minutes was spent around 30 kph driving around looking for her dad and 1.75 hours of trying to get out of Calgary and open highway time. In those conditions the truck gets close to 11 L/100 km. We've seen as low as 10 L/100 km on the highway but that's not normal.

The wife gets anywhere from 10.9 L/100 km to 13 L/100 km per tank. 11.7 L/100 km the average. She always resets the trip 1 computer every tank and trip 2 has been running since 1000 km (for break in).

I find with the 3.5 L Ecoboost you get the mileage your foot allows. If you want to drive it like you stole it 14-16 mpg is normal because you are constantly asking for 450 ft lbs of torque which takes a lot of gas. If you drive it with the heart of a Prius, you can easily get into the high teens.

Most people are saying there isn't any break in on the 2GR but some people are saying there is a better throttle response after 1000 km. I'm willing to bet, because Toyota is good at EPA mpgs, that the long term average on this truck will be around 20-22 mpg for most people.

I was talking to a friend of mine (whos apprentice mechanic) once about that, how all these new engines claim 15 000
and also my mechanic, they both said the same thing. engine might be able to do that. But the filters havne't improved like oil has.

So you're filter is still only good for maybe 10 000km most. So ya 8000km seems like a safe bet of when to do it.
I'm curious what the cost would be for them. I know my TDI is expensive for oil

Your TDi probably has a lot more oil because DEEZUL. Not to mention the cost of a diesel oil filter now a days or the atrocious VW shop rates.

I go with 6 months/8000 km because that's a pretty standard OCI for most people and it's worked. Good to hear some mechanics agree :).

Man, I don't drive like a yahoo and I didn't get near that!

Whatever, not a fair comparison. You live in Alberta, we have these hills to go up over here! :p

    QFT.

Except we have pesky 60 mph west winds regularly. My 2013 Tacoma gets about 11 mpg into a good headwind :(.

Sounds like you need a 2016 with better aerodynamics!

It would help. Then I'd have no S/C though :(.

One of the biggest complaints I have about my truck is that the windshield whistles sometimes in the wind. Toyota tried to fix it 3 times, and finally now it barely does it, but it still happens sometimes and it's extremely annoying. Hopefully the 2016 will be better.

not that much oil...just only run Motul pro spec diesel performance oil haha.

its 20x better than what the dealer uses and only a little more. filter is a MANN filter so not cheap but not that insane.

Regardless it cost me $98 for an oil change every 8000km. Not that bad.

Yeah, that's not bad. I try to get Pennzoil Platinum on sale, or I pay full price, so my oils anywhere from $30-$50 and I only use Bosch oversized filters ($3-$9 depending on Amazon) so my change averages out to be under $50 if I play my cards right.

Silly Toyota though, the 2016 has a canister filter. It's not a disaster, but they are a mess to change, need a special tool just for them, and prevent you from using much in the way of aftermarket media.

its odd I tried pricing it out once, its actually cheaper for me to go to my mechanic for my oil changes vs doing it myself. Because he deals with VW and Audi so much he buys in bulk and gets it cheaper than I can buy it anywhere else.
