TireTE="Evenflow, post: 10645815, member: 108344"]The problem is that the true initial cost of molds for plastics, carbon or fiberglass for someone starting from scratch can be cost prohibitive like $10k and then they may require order qty's of 100 + so it is a steep investment to jump into. Even assuming a keystone margin ( 100% mark up ) you might make $250 per set sold at $500 retail cost. $10k divided by $250 = you would have to sell 40 sets just to cover your cost of initial mold set up. Just purchasing 100 sets at $250 = $25,000 so the rabbit hole just keeps going deeper...you have to sell those 100 sets to cover the $25k and then your right side up again and actually making money...the plight of the small business / inventor in modern America...

There was a thread a while ago about a guy that approached bushwacker about doing a cut out fender flare and he posted their response which was something to the effect of " not enough potential sales to make it worth our while "[/QUOTE]

Yure right! I looked into it as well, you would wanna do molds if you're found fiber flares. If you want some kind of plastic you would need to scan them and have them reproduced which costs mucho $$$ :) if anyone would be willing to back up the project for flares I'd be willing to donate to have my flares scanned... but like you said! You better have $50k sitting around. I found company's in SoCal that do that type of work as well

Does anyone have some pictures of what it looks like between the outer plastic fender and the quarter panel? I would really like some up close photos of your finished product.

I've pretty much looked through this entire thread and haven't came up good pictures of this.

I'm officially a member of the 35s club!! :bananadance: 3 inches cut off the flares and fenders all around and ditched the inner liners. CMC and boxed, pinch weld cut back. Running the stock sport 17" wheels too, only temporally but the 5.5 back spacing definitely wouldn't clear the control arms so I am temporally running a 1.25" wheel spacer. Only rubbing I get is at full crank against the cab mount but just barely. Pics to come in the day light! 05 Double Cab Short Bed TRD 4x4 6 Speed 35x12.5r17 Mickey Thompson Bajas

If you're rubbing now, you need to cut more. It'll only be worse when you go wheel.

Well with the Dirt Designs LT kit, no more tire rub as of yet. I've taken it out and did hit some trails. ( see my build thread for some video cresting a hill top )

No need to cut it. Just beat it like a 14 year old when his parents aren't home.
