Scuba/Freediving Diving Thread

I was just wondering if there are many divers that frequent TW? I live in central Florida so have 2 hour access from either the reefs or the caverns and caves.

 

The closest I get is using a hookah system to clean the bottom of my boat.

 

We dive! We spent some time in January diving Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. I would be happy never returning to Jamaica.

We are thinking of taking a few days off in the next couple months and doing some spring driving around north/central FL.. Maybe Ginnie Springs or something like that.

 

Ginnie is a lot of fun, however a bit pricey. the ballroom is a nice introduction to cavern diving. If you ever go to north central Florida to go diving anywhere around Ginnie, let me know!

I am always looking for dive buddies.

 

I just got certified last year. There are a couple of trips I am looking at towards the end of the year down in Florida. The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is doing some wreck diving in the great lakes this year.

 

hunt me down when/if you come to florida and need a buddy.

 

Sounds great, but the way work is looking this year might not be until next. If you ever want to come up to the great lakes region you let me know!

There is a course for everything you could think of. To get some of the certs that I want I have to go through other ones to get it. Like to get my advanced diver I have to have 4 specialties, then after that I want my rescue diver. Check this video out of one wreck I want to visit this year. I have yet to take my first wreck dive but cannot wait. I have been doing research on some and the history is amazing not to mention some techniques that are needed to navigate through some wrecks. I have been reading a book called "Shadow Divers" which is amazing. It's all about some of the foremost pioneers in the sport of wreck diving.

I kid you not. I did run out of air in the bowels of a sunken tanker at 130 ft.. My "Dive Buddy" was in parts uknown.
We all showed up at the boat.

 

I don't understand how anyone can say that they got bored with scuba. There is so much to do and see. This is one sport that I have definitely have found joy in.

 

I did not say that I am bored with SCUBA, mixed gas, free diving, cave diving or surfing.
I am bored with rules and regs.
You should have done it with double hoses, rebreathers and rules that made sense.
The buddy rule was iffy. They would leave you to almost drown. And tough; you should have known better than to trust anyone.

 

I'm a diver, but since I'm into ice diving, I usually only go on dives in the middle of winter, or if I'm on vacation someplace nice.

 

Well. your buddy will go off to investigate something interesting while you are cutting yourself free from kelp and burning a lot of air.
He wll also leave you at 130 ft in the middle of a sunk warship after pulling your reserve and tapping your tanks with a knife butt.
Could I make this up?

I understand what you are saying. Once I start getting to those depths I don't think I will be pairing myself up with anyone for the dive. With the water being colder up here people get narced easier. Like hell I'm going to trust my life in the hands of someone that can't even think for themselves. You should check out the book "Shadow Diver's". It is a true story book, but reads like a novel. There is one part where some guys were diving on the Andrea Doria and during the process one of the guys got tangled. Every time he tried to cut what was holding him some air purged out of his dry suit. Because he was narced he didn't even think of changing hands. He soon began to sink fast. His buddies came to help and one of them added air to their dry suit to help pull this guy out. He knocked his friend off of him and the guy started shooting up out of the water. He was about 200 feet down! The guy burnt through one of his primary tanks and his reserve tank. He ended up swinging his knife at his buddy that was trying to help him, ripped his reg out of his mouth started breathing in sea water. He ended up swimming off into the wreck with a full tank of air on his back. He had a total of three tanks, and only went through two. Panic mixed with narcosis is not a good thing at all.

 

The panic part and air management is controllable by you.
Eliminate the nitrogen.
