    Hypotheticaly speaking, I'd bet if you installed 16 coils on a 15 (all other things being equal), it'd sit higher too. The coil really determines static ride height whereas the shock/struts primary purpose is to control the rebound/ dampening after the spring is compressed. So it's not shocking to read the 16 shock has the same droop but less compression stroke since the coil is likely a higher spring rate and/or longer freelength, thereby providing the 1" lift difference from the factory. It's easy to order new struts to match a stiffer coil. The goal of any suspension design is to have a critically or slightly underdamped system.

    Don't care about proving something or somebody wrong, I'd just like for them to measure for us off of something other than a feature that has changed, that in all reality, has nothing to do with the amount of lift. Yes, the fender was a nice, convenient reference point, but until we can be sure the reference point didn't change with the new design, it would be nice to have some objective measurements - this in the light of the fact that some have already lifted 3" on a gen3 with no other issues other than what you expect on a gen2 with a 3" lift. That's all I'm saying.

    A quick measurement from Toytec would make it all clear.

    Did you miss the part where they also did a measurement on the lift with suspension at full droop to confirm their findings?

    As someone who is new to lifting at all, what is a good reference to start to understand how all the pieces work and not get too much contradiction from one post to the next. I always thought lifting was just for clearance but am now realizing it would also improve the ride if done right? Is that true?

    sounds like the 3rd gens are using a slightly stiffer coil or slightly different stock shock which already has ~ 1/2 difference in spring seat height to get the 1in difference in ride height.

    Thanks for the info toytec.

    Next thing might be to compare spring rates of the 3rd gen to the 2nd.

    The comments about lift are very interesting. I run a 3 inch suspension lift on my 2010...Have a confirmed order for a 2016 7559, should get a build date tomorrow. My issue is that I must run chains on the front wheels, to get upper A-Arm clearance I run LT 235/85-16's. Wondering if the clearances are the same on the 2016 in that area? Fatter tires look cool but are no advantage when going up steep hills in snow and ice.

    Also how does the truck feel to you,I've got the same truck on order in mag grey,my first Tacoma,I was reading another post where the op was saying the truck bounces going down the road on pavement,he also said it was the first truck he ever drove,I think he was smoking crack myself,but whats your opinion,have you given details in another thread?

    It rides like a truck with an off-road suspension. If there is a bump in the road you feel it. Seams in concrete that are settled, old highways, you bounce along. New asphalt, smooth ride. Feels similar to my '11 trdor. A lot bumpier than our Subaru outback was. Other review was from a guy who had CUVs and currently a Mazda 3 I think, yeah I'm sure it was bumpy as all hell to him.

    Should be some wider angle shots in the quicksand thread.

    great info! I understand that the 3rd gen rides higher, but does it have more tire clearance or do the fenders adjust for that? I had a 13 with a 2" front 1" rear lift with 32.5 tires. Is it safe to say I could run the same set up or would I only need to lift 1" in the front to accommodate the 32.5 tire? thanks for the insight

    My TRD Sport has what I would call a stiff suspension, not bouncy. While you feel all the bumps in the road (stiff), it doesn't bounce (multiple compressions of the suspension after one bump).
