My M3 has the enhanced premium sound option. It's pretty spectacular and came from the factory.

With a power output of 825 watts the Enhanced Audio System is the most powerful sound system ever offered in a BMW. This system features high-quality hi-fi components including 16 high-performance loudspeakers, including subwoofers under both of the front seats, featuring Neodym magnetic drive and exceptionally stiff Hexacone diaphragms, a digital 9-channel amplifier and precision crossovers to guarantee unparalleled sound quality. DIRAC live signal processing technology corrects the impulse response of each loudspeaker, facilitating linear and accurate sound reproduction inside the car. The resulting true impulse response during sound reproduction enables both the driver and all passengers in a BMW to enjoy an extraordinarily multi-faceted and vivid sound experience previously only achieved by high-end home entertainment systems.

Does anyone know if the 2016 Premium System (non-JBL) is the same system that was in 2015 models?

I'd have to say the JBL system that came in the 2015 Limited is awesome. My womans Bang & Olufsen in her Audi doesn't sound as good as the truck (she even admitted to it).

Thanks, I should've been more specific. Any idea if the dimensions and wiring are gonna be the same? I'm wondering if an after-market made for a 2015 would fit the 2016.

I went with the JBL, it sounds great. Ultimately I just wanted everything to be covered by the factory warranty in case there were any electrical issues. I didn't want them trying to blame it on any aftermarket tech on a brand new truck.

So there's a component to this conversation that needs to be emphasized. Entune systems are deeply integrated into the truck's operations. For example, you must use the Entune system to set things like when the doors auto-lock and un-lock, volume of alarm set tone, sensitivity of auto-lights on, turn on LED running lights, etc.

Personally I'm liking the JBL sound quite a bit. I listen to a wide spectrum of music. And like others, while I'm no longer into windshield shattering bass, I do like a system that is responsive with a lot of dynamic headroom. And I think you get that with the Entune JBL combo. Add in the AD2P bluetooth support, decent iPhone support (Siri Eyes Free, reads my texts for me, syncs my contacts), and XM radio, well I've got more than plenty to satisfy my technology needs.

I went with the JBL - I think the apps are identical based on what I saw and the manual indicates. I decided it was worth it for me b/c I spend a lot of time in the truck and I didn't want some stoned dipshit screwing around with my truck. It sounds great for my needs - I listen to everything from sports talk radio to whatever my teenagers say is cool to the Rolling Stones to ... well whatever. I like to crank it up. It is nice to have good sound. Is it the best ever? probably not but it is pretty damn good.

The one downside is that you lose most of the storage space behind the right rear seat in a DC to the AMP /Sub-Woofer - that kind of sucks but in 200k miles on my '04 Tundra all I ever kept back there on that side was maps ... yes, paper topo map books for roaming all over CO and UT. So I figured I wont miss it all that much.

JBL is garbage anyways lol. Unless you are buying their highest line they suck.

If the premium package doesn't do it for you just go aftermarket.
Very few companies will actually put a good system in from factory. You'd be better off buying aftermarket plus then you can build it for your specific music taste.

You're comparing one of the greatest performance coupes from a luxury car manufacture to a truck...no where close to a far comparison.

VW/Audi do this. It makes going aftermarket head unit a pain in the ass.

JL audio offers something in place of this. JL clean sweep, takes the factory head unit signal, cleans it up, then puts it through your amp to your speakers. Works wonders. I had my system set up without it first, then with it. makes all the difference.

But that being the case I'd consider the JBL system then, remove the speakers and put in my own. I had a JBL system years ago. Their subs put out strong bass but do not last at all. Never a fan of their speakers either. I listen to a lot of classic rock, punk and metal. For my taste in music, they do not perform to my liking.

A lot of companies are going with this now though. With the head units connected into everything else. It makes changing them a royal pain in the ass.

Two things: 825 watts is a lot more power than this JBL system, plus you are talking about 16 speakers vs 7. The amount of technology in the BMW system is tons better than what is in the JBL system. Its like comparing a Prius to a Bugatti

Do you need an amp to hook that to or does it just connect to the stock HU?

The clean sweep will either tap into the stock wires or they make connectors for it. But if you go any route you want to amp your speakers, otherwise you are just wasting your money

goes right to the stock head unit.

depending on which one you get, different ones have more channels etc.
but all you do is take your left and right speaker cables and run them to cleansweep, then from there to your amps input side. It honestly works wonders, I didn't think it was worth it at first but after using it it makes one hell of a difference. but I will add they do come at a pretty hefty pricetag as does any JL audio.

The statement was factory sound systems aren't good. That's simply not the case. There are great factory sound systems out there.

Sadly my JBL system is giving me the fits. It reboots multiple times before it comes on (takes a 30 seconds or 3 minutes you never know). When it does finally come on there is no sound... no sound at all. I have been using a small Bluetooth speaker in the truck until Toyota can figure it out.

Picked up the truck Sunday and it sounded amazing. Was loving it. Then Monday... no workie.

I have this one in my truck, if I were to replace this with the JBL premium one like pictured above what it just be plug-and-play? What I have Bluetooth and all that good stuff or are the wiring harness's different?
