I am lifting my truck this weekend and am having second thoughts about the spacer lift I bought even though my truck will rarely be off road. I saw that Toytech offers bulked up springs that will provide 3’’ in height. Has anyone tried this before even with a 2nd gen? Wondering if I should go this route vs the spacer lift.

    Here is the part: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Toytec-3-lift-front-coil-springs_p_1205.html

    Thanks for your input.

I'm glad you brought this up! I talked with Toytec today and ordered this plus a top plate, and AAL for the rear.
    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/NEW-3-Lift-With-front-coils-rear-options_p_233.html

**Disclaimer @ToyTec Lifts highly advised against doing it until they will be able to test fit everything in a month or so do at your own risk**

I volunteered anyways, will test it out, and from all my research it should provide about 1.5-2inch of lift on the 3rd gen, due to the ~1inch higher ride height from the factory compared to the 2nd gen. I'll be taking lots of measurements and pictures, a install write-up, and geometry measurement changes in steering and cv axle. If it doesn't fit... oh well, but from right now I can't see why it wouldn't.

    Anyone else got some input?

    I would always
I don't think you can put them on stock shocks not sure though. But the general consensus here is to stay away from spacers, even if you don't off-road.

Do not do a spacer lift, the ride will be horrible, and If u do decide to wanna go offroading. You will have a recipe for disaster. I have the toytec coils paired with bilstein 5100s all the way around and the ride is amazing. Rides better than stock. It is stiff, but rides real nice.
Spend the extra bucks and get the coils

BTW you can not put these springs on stock shocks. You'll have at least get the billies

3rd gen suspension is no different than the 2nd gen suspension. All aftermarket kits for 2nd gen fit the 3rd gen

    Not Completely Correct, Please note...

[QUOTE "ToyTec Lifts, post: 10944175, member: 12472"]Hello all,

We wanted to post up some information about the 3rd gen suspension and what we have seen that works and does not work for the testing we have done thus far. After our truck gets back from the SEMA show, it will undergo some more testing and i will continue to update this thread with more information as it becomes available.

The 05-15 Tacoma on average, measures 20 inches in the front and 21.5 inches in the rear. The 16 Tacoma measures 21 inches in the front and 22 inches in the rear.

So being that the control arm/shock/spindle configuration is nearly identical to the 05-15, this means that the front of the 3rd gen actually sits 1 inch higher in the shock travel range. We were able to confirm this by doing a hub-to-fender measurement at full droop (25.5 inches for both the 2nd gen and the 3rd gen) and doing a measurement while sitting on the ground (20 inches for the 2nd gen, 21 inches for the 3rd gen), we can see that the 2nd gen factory suspension compressed 5.5 inches to get to ride height and the 3rd gen compressed 4.5 inches to get to ride height. Full droop stayed the same. The 3rd gens just did not compress as much.

So i bet you are asking what that means for lifting and why would i even care?

Well since the suspension is now 1 inch higher is the travel range, its actually 1 inch "lift" from the factory. The limit of the suspension is still the same 3 inches of lift so this means that over a factory 2016, you can only do a true 2 inch over how it comes from the factory. Technically you could adjust some coilovers to the full 3 inches of lift over factory but then you would end up with hardly any down travel left in the coilover and you are going to be hitting full extension on the shock all the time.

As of right now, we have tested a couple different versions of our BOSS suspension and our Bilstein coilover setup. The mounting is all they same so they bolt right up. Mainly is the lift heights that are slightly different.

Our TTHA-CK Bilstein coilover setup that is not adjustable gave a 22.5 inch hub to fender measurement. So compared to factory ride height, its only 1.5 inches higher. But it actuality, its really a 2.5 inch lift when compared to a 2nd gen.

There's many different things that can cause that. Longer cool, slightly heavier duty cool etc.. I'm not talking about stock suspension though since this thread is all about lifting the truck. That's why I said all aftermarket kits that fit a 2nd gen, fit a 3rd gen. The mounting is the exact same.

Yes, all mounting will be the same. And since this thread is about lifting I wanted OP to be aware not to expect a full 3 inch gain in the front on most of the systems that is advertised on the 2nd gen kits. Good info in here

My concern is that I spend an extra 2600 dollars on the eztended warranty. If i do spacers this does not void my warranty and if anything breaks it is covered. If I do new shocks and springs it voids the warranty and if anything breaks then I am shit out of luck...

Go to Downsouthmotorsports.com, they have good deals on tacoma lifts, its where I got mine. I don't know about the whole 3rd Gen and 2nd Gen being the same. But correct me if I'm wrong, the same lift on my 1st gen will fit a 2nd gen.

Sorry "spent". I already bought this warranty. If I go with the spacers my warranty will not be void... Also, I ran these spacers on my 07 for a few months before I did a 6'' Fabtech lift. Ride was fine and I didn't die. Plus, anyone that buys a lifted truck from the dealership, its coming with a spacer lift.

Just note that anything above a 2" lift on the '16 will most likely require new UCAs. Since the '16 has a 1" lift from last year, you only have about 2" to play with before you start doing some major modifications. To keep it simple, get yourself some Bilstein 5100s all around giving you up to a 2" lift up front (without the need for a new spring) and an AAL in the rear if you decide. This will keep you within warranty as well.

What's you opinion on it? I've got it ordered right now from Toytec.
