with weight, you have better handling, even in 4 wd. Plus, the weight can save you from spinning if you hit a patch of snow while accelerating on a tarred road you normally shouldn't be in 4 wd.

I've been drive in Winters for 40 years, haven't hit a tree... yet. Yes, all in Maine and NH. I think I know a little about the subject.

If you don't carry some sort of weight in your pickup around here in the winter, you're pretty much an idiot.

Really? We are discussing a 4x4, right? Last time I put weight over the rear drive was back when I drove firebirds and camaros through winters.

Installed Cooper At/3's (265/70R16) and ProComp 7089 Rims. Tinted front windows. Did the Fog Light Anytime mod. Did the tailgate mod. Added running boards. Adding sound Deadening from RAAMaudio. Replacing stock speakers with Polk Audio DB6501's.
Sand here also, bagged in a Plano box (to keep it dry). Not so much for snow, as we get a lot of ice.

Agree.....That's what I find too. The 4 wd should be used when the snow is deep. If you are using it just get around on slippery roads, your tires are poor and you don't have enough weight. These truck based 4 wd systems should not be used driving around town and on roads with intermittent pavement and snow. You need good two wheel drive traction. The LSD in 2 wd works great and allows you to get more 2 wd traction around town.

I used 4wd all the time in snow , no problems

as for weight , my 200lb cap and tools work great to plant the rear end

I don't know where in Maine you live....but we had 100 inches up north last February alone. We live on the side of a mountain and a dirt road and everyone has 4 wd, studded snow tires and plenty of weight. We need 4 wd every day just to go to work th entire winter. Some flatlanders who live in a development.... can get away with it.

When I shovel the snow off my drive way a throw some scoops in the bed. It's Heavy it's free and when it warms up enough it disapears so you don't even have to remove it or figure out how to get rid of it.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I don't bother with weight in the bed, just put it in 4WD and go. Sand is good for getting unstuck if you need traction though.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I have a DCSB and a tool box with probably 100lbs of stuff. I have found that to be sufficient in snow with the stock Rugged Trail tires. If it was a regular cab with an 8ft bed it might be a different story, but the weight distribution of a DCSB isn't that bad.

If it's snowing I usually opt to drive the Honda Civic with a mechanical limited slip differential and studless Michelin X-ice tires.

I have found the stock Rugged Trails to be poor in most snow conditons. I don't wonder why you take a Civic when it snows. Last year I was late getting my snow tires on the truck and slipped and slid all over the place with the Trails on mine. They are the worse tires BFG makes. JMHO.

I can barely remember this morning. I remember it was cool today so climate change must be a hoax.
