Anyone ever come across something like this? When going between forward and reverse, my truck will make a loud clicking noise. I got under the truck and inspected all the Ujoints and support bearing, and they seem fine. But when I physically moved the truck back in forth (while laying under the truck) in neutral with the e-brake on I heard the loud clicking sound coming from the center of the driveshaft between the center support and the transfer case/transmission.

My toyota buddy says there's a balancing spring that's supposed to be welded along the inside length of the shaft that probably broke from the weld somewhere.

    Thoughts?

I had the same issue. It may be the splines within your carrier bearing (not the slip yoke). I pulled mine apart and greased it and the sound went away, but only temporarily. I ended up having to replace the first segment of my drive shaft because the splines were damaged (from transfer case).

Just to clarify, the drive shaft is segmented within the carrier bearing, some call it the "pillow block".

Sorry, it has been a while since this happened... There is a flange that goes on the splines that I am referring to that are probably damaged. The flange is farther to the back of the truck than the carrier bearing.

Thinking about it now though, I should probably also check out my mounts... if the mounts are bad, the tranny/motor may be sliding just enough for the drive shaft to kinda bang into something else or itself.

Forgot to ask... is it a repetitive "clicking" sound, does it happen more than once at any time?

Kinda off topic, but as a joke, a guy put zip ties all over the driveshaft and everytime I drove it, it would click and click a lot. I was so upset and thought something was wrong with my baby. :taco: Anyways good luck.

no it's just happens when moving betwen forward and backwards. when opposing torque is applied to the driveshaft
