It is a miniature claymore mine to prevent vehicle theft. The other side should read "this side towards thief"

That looks like a lo-jack. I've installed them on customers cars at the dealership where I work. They are usually for high risk credit customers and allow the bank to stop the vehicle from starting if the monthly payments aren't made. I could be wrong but thats what it looks like to me.

Well I financed mine through my credit union ...but bought it from a local lot. Can I take it off? That's kinda scary

    Google turned up this website.

    http://www.goldstargps.com/

You should contact the dealer before you take it off. Just in case.

I know how to remove them, it's pretty simple. They pretty much just splice into the starter signal wire from your ignition switch. If you know how to splice wires and what not, then I don't see why you couldn't remove it.

Dafuq? o_O I'd be a bit insulted if my bank felt the need to install a LoJack/starter interrupt system with the fear that I'm going to default. I'd also be removing that shit immediately. There is no way that is written in the loan contract.

If you have bad credit and need a car, this is the only way to get a car financed.

To be honest, whoever installed this is an idiot. When I install them we hide the device way up under the dash by the instrument cluster so that it's not easily located. For obvious reasons.

I feel like this can't/shouldn't be legal??

How bad does your credit have to be for a bank to require this? I'm assuming they don't disclose this to the financed?

Who do they hire and when does this crap get installed? I feel violated and insulted for the OP

The customers know that it's installed, they have to be informed. At least that's what the sales department tells me. It seems if they know it's there they are more likely to stay up with the payments.

I don't really know how bad your credit has to be, but I'm assuming that if you can't get a car loan without it your credit sucks.

The op says he got his money from a credit union, so I assume the lot he bought the truck from installs them on every vehicle but only activates them when needed. That being said, I would remove it asap so that he doesn't get stranded when the unit fails and kills the starter.

Neither myself nor the bank in whom I financed through were aware of this device... The bank never even looked at the truck... The car lot must have put them on all their cars specifically for those who finance with them

Then I would take it back to them and make them take it out. Seeing as it's a GPS device, they can monitor where you are at any time. That's probably not legal, since you did not finance with them directly.

LOTS of wiring, dual battery setup, Solar charging system, with some random lights spread around here and there.
Speaking of LoJack.............we as a police department have the ability to track the system remotely if your truck/car/van/suv/etc. is stolen. We can get the system activated and get real-time updates until marked patrol cars get in the area and locate it with the on board equipment. We use it a bunch to get vehicles back.

I am guessing you bought the truck used. That device may have been put on for the previous owner.

After my initial search, nothing. I was hoping to make a quick buck by selling it.
