I did my gauge cluster in white LEDs months ago, I want to my make my ac controls white now. How would I go about this? The plate itself is colored orange behind so I can't just change the bulbs. Do other models like the 4Runner have the same ac control panel but not with orange behind it? Any ideas?

    Thanks, Casey

Just replace the bulbs, no need to do anything to the panel.

nope, its orange paint on top of white paint thats on top of black paint. you cant scratch off one layer without messing up the other layer and everyone who ever tried ended up needing to buy a new cover plate after they ruined theirs.

older model 4runners from 01-04 have the white cover plates you are looking for but its only "some" models, the limited versions wont work (different control) and I thing its just the "base" model 4runners that had the same controls as ours.

I have an extra white faceplate and set of clear a/c & rec illumination buttons (those are colored orange on our trucks too) because I bought a 4runner heater control to get the green LED button lights to go along with the white cover plate but I broke the first one trying to replace the bulbs without taking the screws out to remove the circuit board first. so I had to buy another one and ended up with a spare set of white cover plate and white a/c & rec buttons.

they are very hard to find now seeing as there were only 2 years of 4runners that have them and a very limited production of "base" models in those years. also Toyota no longer make the white ones (you can only buy the orange ones from Toyota now) even if you want to buy it new.

if you or anyone else wants to buy the white faceplate and clear a/c & rec illumination buttons, PM me.

Hi, Newbie here to this group. I've replaced Instrument Cluster bulbs before on our Lex.

The very day I replace my rear drive shaft u-joint on our 95 Taco last weekend, I noticed an instrument bulb burned out. I plan on using LED's from superbright LED's.

Since I want to use Blue LED's , I want to try to get more output per bulb.

I noticed they do have some LED's that are brighter than others, but they appear to be longer.

Has anyone who has replaced these bulbs noticed if there's room for a slightly longer LED ?

    Thanks much.

Blue LEDs will be almost impossible to see at night. Ever see a blue sign lit up at night? You can barely read what it says. Now if you are talking about more of a light blue/teal, you might be okay. But the "wide angle" superbright LEDs should be plenty bright enough

Here ate my blue LEDs from superbrightleds on my instrument panel at night. I can see them just fine. Here is the HVAC panel I got out of an 02 SR5 4Runner. I still have to do the orange light around the cigarette lighter though

That's not as bad, definitely a lighter blue.
