    Howdy all,
For about two weeks now my truck has had a large clunking noise coming from the rear under braking and sometimes when I released the brakes. I assumed it was a self adjusting spring in the rear drums or possibly a bushing was out of whack. It didn't seem to hamper performance but it was annoying. Anyways I have 34K on the clock so I got it into the dealer before 36K just in case it was under warranty. Just got a call from my service advisor saying that the mechanic was able to replicate the issue and that there's a TSB Recall on the driveshaft. Even the advisor was pretty surprised and thought it may be brake shoe movement when I dropped it off. So lucky me gets a brand new driveshaft for free. If anyone else has a clicking/ clunking noise coming from the rear while braking take it in. Also I have a 2013 Double Cab SR5 4x4 Auto.

I will be picking my truck up later today and I can post it when I get it. They didn't have the part in stock so I'm gonna bring it back in next week to get the repair done. They also said it's safe to drive on the faulty part.

its not a faulty part, just simply a dried up slip joint, quite common.

but definietly get the TSB printed out from them.

the clunk when stopped is due to axle wrap, on the prerunners the clunk comes from the slip yoke at the transmission, on 4x4's it comes from the slip joint just after the center u joint in the rearward section of the driveshaft.

Besides the clunk during braking, did you hear any chatter noise coming from underneath the truck while driving, radio off? I ask because I recently have that condition. I then greased my drive shaft, all zerk fittings, and the chatter greatly reduced, if not went a way. Wonder what I have going on down there? 13' with only 36k on the clock.

The only complaint I had was the clunk when accelerating from a stop or coming to a stop. No other noises.
