Just sprayed 3 cans. ($9.99 each at Lowe's)

I've only had the truck 2 days and it was fresh off the delivery truck when I purchased it.

There are already places on the frame that spots of rust are forming. Mostly on the frame welds, but also a few places where the paint was scraped off.

I know, I know, its only surface rust :crapstorm:.....but I dislike any rust. Glad I went ahead and spayed it.

What kind of prep work did you do (clean/dry etc) before applying the FF?

I didn't do anything. I only have 40 miles on it and it hasn't rained. It was still very clean under there.

That was one of the reasons I wanted to do it right away before it got wet or dirty.

I guess a good undercarriage wash would be a good idea (I've never used this stuff before, so I have no idea what the instructions say). I have about 250 miles on mine now and it rained the day we picked-up :(

Fluid film never drys. It will need to be reapplied annually. It's great stuff that works but it requires maintenance.

1 year 19,800 miles and not a spot of surface rust anywhere

Isn't there a better, more perperminant fix for a good rust protectant?

Personally the longest lasting "treatment" I've seen is hands down bar and chain oil and wax. Get the chain oil nice and hot, throw some wax in there and spray it on. My dad did it to his 2011 when he first got it. It's still there to this day. Scrape some off and it looks brand new underneath. And that's with 4 Vermont winters under its belt. Not the most environmentally friendly thing to do but everybody and their brother does it around here.

There are already a couple good threads on rust prevention. I was mearly suggesting coating the underneath as soon as you get it as mine already had some spots of rust right off the delivery truck....

Are there any commercial services or treatments available for this? Preferably not from the dealership?

I live in an apartment complex because it's dirt cheap, but they're very anal about oil-changes on the property. If they spot a dude underneath a truck they'll come nanny me to death.

I only found one deep scratch on the frame. But there were several spots around the oval tube step mounting locations where it looked like they scraped off the paint trying to get it in position.
