I’m I nuts to consider a Tacoma over my current Tundra?

    Hi,

I have a 2015 Tundra 5.7L SR5, double cab, 4x4, 10k miles, and $2k spent in upgrades. I’ve been debating selling it for a Tacoma. Reasons being: better gas mileage, don’t really have a need for a full-size pick-up, and I caught the Tacoma bug (I don’t hold onto cars for very long, maybe 1-2 years at the most).

I think it’s the price of the Tacoma that has me hesitating. Back in Dec ’14 I got my Tundra for around $32k. The price I’ve been quoted for a Tacoma 4x2 TRD Sport Double Cab is roughly $31-32k.

Ultimately, it’s my decision, but I’m I crazy? Anything that I’m not considering that will make this a slam dunk decision for the Tacoma? :):D

    Thanks

I think you re just caught up in the flow of the new design and all the attention it's getting. Stay off the forums for a couple weeks and if you still want a Tacoma.....Just do it. Cooler heads may prevail. This Tacoma will only be new for a short time before its all over the place.

You chose the Tundra over the Tacoma before......I suggest you keep your truck and look for the reasons you did not buy the Tacoma last time. It's better but not all that much better,The extra money spent won't be made up with slightly better gas milage by any stretch of the imagination

yeah don't make the switch just because of mpg. you have a new truck play with it for a while, like a week or two
then trade it in. I dumped my jeep because driving it easy was only getting me 9.5 mpg. im looking forward to 17+ mpg

2016 Tacomas are way overpriced, thanks to GM.

See if you can find a leftover new 2015. Deals are much better.

    I wouldn't compromise a 4x4 for a 4x2.

When I was buying my 2014 taco, the tundras with a nearly identical price tag were catching my eye. I think it can become an issue of "value" and not strictly monetary. I'd look over and see those big trucks and think "man, look how much more I'd be getting for my money- almost the SAME amount money!" But I really don't need a tundra. Had to keep reminding myself that. In the end, the taco suits my lifestyle and needs much better. If you've got money to burn, awesome. I know lots of folks that trade up every couple years. So, Get whatever trips your trigger. Nothing wrong with scaling down if you don't need the big 'un. But personally, I wouldn't rush it. I'd Let a few more roll off the assembly line. No need to argue this one in this thread, but I kinda like the idea of several thousand being produced before they get to mine. You know, just in case a particular bolt needs an upgrade. I'd love a tundra if I lived in the country. In town, taco alllll day long.

Checked my tundra today. Got 11.5 per gallon on last tank. Doesn't take much to beat that

All depends on your needs and finances.. i drive an average of 30-35k moles a year, so 5mpg difference makes a big difference in my wallet.

Moles a year......well at least it isn't "parsecs per year"

If the finances work for someone. I would only trade if you did not change your debt much for the worse.

Looking back at the op's post it makes me wonder why you want to switch. You will get better gas milage, but as often as you switch vehicles the money you save on gas is no where near what you loose the first year on depreciation. Even with these trucks that hold their value. Not only that, but the 2000 you spent in upgrades and will likely spend on a tacoma will outweigh any savings you may get.

If you don't lease, you should really look into it.

You would be a great person for people to buy a truck from. 1 owner, took biggest depreciation, sell often.

    4x2 is not a truck.

Lots of short trips. Get about 20 highway, but she rarely sees the highway. Not lifted, bone stock. It's a 2005 and I just turned over 42000 miles.
