I am back in the club...after trading my 2011 Trd off road 4x4 for a hippy hauler (Subaru forester) due to long highway commute, three years ago, I have decided life is much better with a Tacoma...Yesterday I picked up my 2014 SR5 4x4...it came with new Bridgestone dweller HT's, which provide a smooth highway ride but get poor reviews in rain and snow...looking for tire recommendations...I live in NH (84 inches of snow in 3 weeks last winter) I have a 50 minute highway commute each way...I seldom drive on light trails and dirt roads but want the ability to do so...not sure if I go with dedicated snows or all seasons and which brand/model

I am down here in Western MA so I also know New England winters.......you will never go wrong with a 265/70/17 bfg all terrain ko or ko2 or the equivalent in a 16 inch rim. Stick with a C rated instead of E rated to keep the weight down. It is great on road, in snow, off road, and not too much noise.

I just ordered 4 KO2 265/70/17 tires from DTD via ebay. $200 discount promotion going on now.

The tires that came with it are 245/75/16's...any advantage to switching to a different size?

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
If your using the tires all year and you have to drive in snow I would take the Cooper ATW.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Winter tires on one set of wheels, your all season/mostly pavement P rated tire for the good weather. P rated will be fine on light trails/dirt roads.

Aggressive trail type tires may work ok in snow/ice to get you moving, but they do diddly to help you stop. And for mostly a pavement truck, stopping in your weather is much more valuable than going.

Winter tires like Blizzrack, Nokias, and some others will far and away surpass any trail tire for your described use.

Yea, I know my location says Fl. And I've thankfully lived here all my life. But we do own a home in NH too, so it's not exactly like I'm talking out of magazine reading.

I moved up here from Florida three years ago. I had a set of BFG's on my jeep and they did great in the beach sand. In researching the BFG's and Coopers, it looks like BFG gets high marks for rain, snow and ice. While I agree dedicated snows do give an advantage, the Dueler HT's the truck came with get crappy rain reviews so besides being quiet and comfortable on the highway in dry weather, it appears they may suck for every other situation.

ATWs are all terrain tires with a severe winter service rating. They have much more siping than Duratracs and BFG KOs.

If you want a true "winter" dedicated tire you want a Blizzak. So far as I know from personal experience and professional reviews over the years they are the best non-studded snow tire. :)

Thanks for all of the info...I have ordered the KO2's as the Cooper AtW's are impossible to find and look at in person. I hope to sell the brand new Dueler HT's that came with the truck. I wish they had put real tires on to begin with

Good choice. I am sure you'll like them. Well, I love them. I was able to get $400 for the factory Dunlop AT20 tires. Took 3 days to sold them on CL.

Just had the wheels and tires put on today...I went white letters out as I am a product of the 80's...next, remove the tubular steps, replace with black rail, add black grill guard color matched cap with Thule rack, black out all badges and replace chrome rear bumper with black...image.jpgimage.jpg
