Anybody ruin their seats from sliding in and out?

I'm 6' 4" and more or less slide into the truck everyday. After five years of work encrusted pants, utility belts and things hanging out of my pockets, the seat is only showing a small bit of thread wear. That being said I am looking at some seat covers, but for another reason. My dog sheds like... A dog.

I bought $20 seat covers from Pep Boys when I bought the truck. 6 years later they are still fine and my seats under them are new.

I noticed this in my 2013 TRD OR more than my 2006 SR5 before I put covers on.
As mentioned by others, I put Wet Okoles on getting through group buys around $225 for front set w/ console cover. I didn't add any frills to the covers to keep cost down.
Yes there are less expensive covers. I've used the WO mainly because you can get them re-paneled (already mentioned) & sell them relatively easily recouping most of initial cost. I stopped using any piping on covers for that would rip up easily too. The set in my 2006 stood up for many years leaving my seats looking brand new. Sold them here to buy a set for my 2013.

My 2013 is showing this wear on the outer bolstering. I was considering getting seat covers, but what about the airbag in the seat? Do WO's or any other manufacturer accommodate this. I'd rather not have an airbag go off inside of a seat cover with nowhere to go.

I am 6'2" 230 lbs and have the same problem. Also, my cat got in through an open window when I used to park the truck in my garage and peed on the passenger side of the bench seat. Not too long after that I had a shop remove my front diff plug because I couldnt get it out myself without stripping it. They ended up spilling a bunch of gear oil on the same spot. Needless to say I dont have the most pleasant smelling cab, and I plan to replace the seat at some point. But it is difficult to find a bench seat for a halfway decent price. Been looking for over a year now.

No issues after almost 11 years and 169k miles other than the pattern showing sort of a crease like coloring. I too slide in and out of the truck on that side of the seat due to my height. Maybe SR5 fabric is just more durable?

I have Duluth covers on my seats. They fit over the headrest and lay on the seat. Easy to remove, wash and replace. 45$ each.

Im not against seat covers, but there doesnt seem to be a happy medium between "25 dollar slip on socks" and "500 dollar custom, made to order and sewn with angel hair'....

Oh well. I guess Ill have to wait and see.

The lumbar support dial on the outside of my seat has rubbed a hole in my seat cover, likely from my ass pressing down on the edge of the seat. Should it bother me?

I picked up a like new OEM replacement off of TW awhile back. Now I figure if I put it on I will likely just wear a hole through it so it has been sitting in a box for a good year :tinfoilhat:

I have 96000 miles and mine is just starting to show some wear right over the lumbar support dial. I have another an issue with the lumbar support itself, it fades as I drive and I have to readjust the dial to get the seat tighter again.

I made a habit out of grabbing the A pillar handle when I get in or out and pull myself up over the edge of the seat rather than sliding my rear end over it.

I'm starting to wear a spot through my wet okole seat covers on the lower back section, right on the seam, where my pistol makes regular contact with it. Covers are about 2 years old.

yes, I have done the mods
I've had my coverkings on for maybe two years, and the stitching on the left side driver seat is starting to wear. Everybody gets in and out of their truck differently; I slide my ass a lot, so mine is gonna wear out quicker.

When you do get seat covers, make sure it's a kind with the seat and seatback in separate pieces. When you wear out the seat cover, you can then buy just the seat cover again - that's my plan.

Had some seat wear on lumbar supports from sliding in and out. Part of the problem was increased difficulty climbing in with increasing weight and no nerf bars. Having outgrown a couple of polo shirts, simply slipped them over the seats - inexpensive and pattern on shirts really compliments the dull grey interior. (size men's large works fine) Pockets on the shirts can be used to keep gas reciepts in if you're on a long trip for mileage costs and such.
