What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

You're going to have to break out a hell of a shoehorn and do a bunch of prying to squeeze a 6bt in there. Are you going to stretch the front? It is also kinda tall. Are you planning to have it sticking through the hood or lift the body?

 

I'm thinking there might be a reason to keep the fuel filter low...as in the lowest point in the fuel system. Maybe it has to do with vapor lock or something. If it was me I'd pull some lines from a yard and keep the filter close to the OEM location. I've also seen strait lines lengths at the parts stores but I don't think I'd be too handy with the line bending tool.

 

swapped out my power steering pump with one from a junkyard so it would come with the pulley. Also replaced all of the belts and the a/c tensioner pulley.

ah how i missed power steering. Its really amazing how easy it was to swap out though, you don't even need to remove the pulley.

 

Relocating the fuel filter shouldn't be a big deal. Having the filer to close to the exhaust may cause problems with heat. Keeping the filter close to the tank is typically preferred.

 

I sense a SAS coming on. Good luck with the project, that's a pretty massive engine. One with 370k sitting on a pallet at my work right now, didn't know just how big they are until you see one outside of the trucks. What would you want for the spacers? I only need 2 but I assume you'd probably prefer to sell as a set.

 

My plan is to remove the stock fan to gain a few inches, do a remote radiator in the bed to save space, and cut back the firewall 3-4" inches. If I have to I will try to mount the engine low enough to clear the front crossmember where the hood latch is since I can get a couple more inches that way. I'm trying to avoid stretching the front, but I know how I would do it if I need to.

Edit: shit I think I'm good. The 6bt is 34" without the fan. I could make that work pretty easily I think. Being 32" tall will be interesting. Won't know until I try.

Finished the Whiteline bushing swap.

 

Anybody have an opinion on outer CV boot? Does it replace the OEM boot or does it fit over it? It is hard to tell from the description. Also it says "Long Travel" boots but I have a mid travel build.



Since the lift my boots are all split and hemorrhaging grease. I'm trying to find the best place to buy new/rebuilt CVs or maybe just replace the boots since they aren't making any noise currently.

Does anyone know what this little plastic box is under this section of intake pipe on the 2.7L? It seems to have a good amount of oil in the bottom of it

 

There's actually a small stream of oil resting in the bottom of this tube right before the throttle body...

 

It's an intake silencer / water and "debris" catcher. Not sure why you'd have oil in there...

 

Not to mention my engine shook for at least thirty seconds this morning upon starting before it smoothed out.

 

Seriously.. I'm starting to get a little sketched out.
