image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Went out for the first time off roading( yes I'm a total noob) with a brand spanking new, not yet broken in (600kms total life on the ODO) taco.. It did pretty good, was following, sometimes leading, my buddy in his brand new 2015 Titan PRO-4X. I gotta say that not having rear lockers hurt me a bit. In spots where only 1 tire had traction the Titan which had lockers, rolled right through with ease while I had to do a bit of maneuvering to get the taco out. All in all it was a fun first trip out.

Off road mods? Just a 3" body lift, skid plate and the bigger tires on off road wheels.. The rest is all cosmetic (undercoat, 3M, rear step, side steps, hood deflector, side visors, TRD exhaust)
I'm seriously considering adding a rear locker tho.

I guess the 3" body lift helped the mud flaps to not scrape, or did they drag on you anyway?

I scraped at least one. Checked them after the wash no marks. They do sit too low anyway, might cut them back from the top

I don't know too much about trucks or lifts..Like my status under my name says.. It's what the dealer offered and at that time I didn't no there was a choice.
    What are the cons?

I've never had a body lift on any of my trucks but have heard that with more leverage on the body mount it isn't good especially if your wheelin.Just play it safe with that nice Tacoma of yours!

Body lift allows for some additional tire clearance but doesn't do a damn thing to enhance off road performance since no additional ground clearance is gained. As @ODNAREM correctly pointed out it does put more stress on the body mounts by increasing the leverage the body has over the mounts. For mild wheeling 3" BL is likely no big deal, if you want to get serious though I would strongly consider going to a proper suspension lift and toning the BL down to 1" or get rid of it altogether.

Well it does give it more clearance by allowing for bigger tires which lift the whole thing up! As it stands right now I have more clearance than I need for the type of off-roading that I do. Been out twice so far... keeps up with everyone on the trail and gets me out of all situations I put it though so far..it went places where other trucks turned around.. Deep mud and crazy articulation. Sharp uneven climbs.. It's was a lot of fun for me. Very happy with the way it sits and I feel very confident behind it. I would only take it out a few times a year... This type of lift is just fine all things considered.
If I decide to get serious wheelin I would properly lift my v8 4runner ltd. which has much more off road capability than the taco.

The only benifit to a body lift is stuffing larger tires. Seeing the body 3" off the frame is just an eye sore. A lift will actually help your rig be more off road capable.

OP, look up the 'yellow wire mod'. This will enable front and rear electronic LSD in your truck, which will solve the issue when only one tire has traction.

Also be sure to deflate your tires for maximum traction off road.

Kind of off topic but do sports not come with atrac? atrac has gotten me un-stuck when the rear locker did nothing.

They do not come with ATRAC, only the ORs do. Which is why I mentioned the yellow wire mod, which is the next best thing.

Thanks for the tips..YWM already done.
I also put on a TRD sticker on the skid plate that gave it a better approach angle..

In that pic you have significant mud pack. The KOs suck at self cleaning, I haven't tried my KO2s though they are rated to do better than the KO. If that is your normal wheeling territory I'd look to KM2s for better traction and self cleaning.

Like I mentioned above. It went through the whole trail without a hitch. KO2 are a great tire imo
