I went back and forth on whether I should get 4wd. I had my Tacoma for about 2 1/2 years and the 4wd was used once when my son was using the truck to go back and forth to work because of a significant snow storm here (yes even Virginia Beach gets snow). For what I use the truck for, the 2wd with the electronic locking rear diff. should be just fine. I was lucky to find the truck configuration I wanted in the color I wanted.

Honestly, I probably would have tried any of the motors, V8, 2.7, or 3.5 ecoboosts. Just so happened that this particular truck was configured the way I wanted it and had the V8. Again, I think lucky on my part because V8 was my first choice. Reliable motor, plenty of power, decent mileage (probably just as good or better than my Tacoma was). And it does sound sweet.

Yes on the sound. I haven't had the chance to "get on it" yet. I'm still getting a feel for the handling and power. But the truck just does not want to go slow. :D I was doing 50 yesterday on a road by our house before I knew it. I'm barely touching the gas pedal and doing 25. Between the V8 and the 3.55 rear (tow package and rear diff. locker I guess ) 25 is coasting .

It's only been two days. I need to set a day aside to take the wife and go for a longer cruise. But so far, I am liking this truck. It rides like a car. Solid construction from what I can see. Fit and finish are excellent. Nothing cheap about the interior. Tons of storage, cubbies, the console is huge. Ford really put a lot of thought into the details. Time will tell. If it doesn't give me any problems mechanically, Ford has a convert in me.

I understand about the 2wd vs 4wd debate. But thats still a sweet truck. Just makes the itch I have that much worse.

Sadly no. That thing was a beast of a motor but you had to be hooked to fuel tanker the entire time you were driving. A buddy has a Raptor and he's getting around 10 mpg.

The 11-14 Ecoboost motors didn't really do much for fuel economy.

The 15s seem to be better. The 2.7L guys routinely get 20+ in mixed driving with the 4x4 models. My FIL's 3.5L Ecoboost (SuperCrew, 4x4) is getting mid 18's lifetime average and he's at ~2,500 miles. He tows as well. Wish Ford offered cylinder deactivation like the GM trucks for the V8.

Those engines have issues though, but so do the EcoBoosts I guess. Misfiring is a big problem with the EBs which is why I don't want to touch them. But the cylinder deactivation doesn't work well. People were having issues with them not activating properly and then blowing out. :S

The misfire is due to a heat exchanger that is too efficient. It condenses out moisture and the moisture sits. Then under load, the air pulls the moisture up causing misfire. Ford has few TSBs on the issue for the 11-14 models with varying success. The easiest is not Ford's answer at all. Just drill a pin hole in the intercooler to let the moisture weep out. Most car manufacturers do this anyways.

The 2015 part numbers are all new and there have been no instances of this issue on the F150 forums.

But if you have an 11-14 in humid/damp regions, it's something to think about.

One of the guys here on TW has one of the GM twins with the deactivation. He spent (or wants to spend) $400 on a box that turns that off. He's read a lot of reports about oil consumption going up when in 4 cyl mode apparently.

5100s (2.5" front), OEM Raptor wheels, 315/70/17 BFGs, Undercover, tint, Weathertechs.
Some further 5.0 bragging (because I enjoy the motor so much) - we did a 170 mile trip this weekend with 4 adults, 75 mph in one of the heaviest F150s you can get, and got 21.2 mpg on the highway w/ 3.55 gears. The 3.5 Ecoboost is a great motor and better (heavy) towing motor, but the 5.0 in the F150 is so underrated. I truly love this motor/truck.

I'm my eyes, you should either buy a tacoma or tundra if the size is suitable. only when u need something more heavy duty then tundra, buy american.

So in other words, when you need a real truck, buy an F150.

Would be interested in hearing that rationale for avoiding American truck makers so much.

I have no idea why the stigma is still around about American trucks (or cars for that matter). When I bought my F150, my buddy who only drives Subarus asked me if I traded a can of beans for it. I kinda laughed but the more I think about it, the more I wonder why people assume domestics are crap (especially now-a-days when manufacturer lines are computer controlled).

I'd prefer a Tundra of they didn't get absolutely shit fuel economy. For the amount I drive it's about $100 more a month in fuel than an F150. That's at 2 buck gas.

yeah if you need a real truck, buy american. but if someone wanted to get like the chevy colorado, id rather get a tacmoma or tundra.

to be fair though, some newer toyotas aren't as reliable as the older toyotas cuz are made in america that use more american made parts. usually, if a part fails in a toyota that seems premature, it probably made in america. thats why i avoid american trucks unless i need something big, like a 2500/3500.

Most Toyota's sold around the world are made in the US. You sit here and imply that you would fight tooth and nail to have a Toyota because anything made in America is crap.

Can we see how ridiculous this is?

If American made vehicles were so unreliable Toyota would be close to the worst of them all.

I'll never buy an American truck but I do see a lot of old ford and Chevy driving around town so they must be good. But do they replace rusted out frames like Toyota? I see some old threads about 15 year old Tacoma getting new frames from Toyota. Maybe someone could second this. Point. Toyota seem to stand behind their products

I thought Toyota just bought out the trucks with the bad frames and didn't actually replace anything.

But to answer the question, yes, Dodge has done that for years with their POS rear fenders.

To answer that a different way, American trucks don't have frames that rust out LOL.

So true, almost (if not all) all the problems on 2gen Tacoma are with non Japan made parts. Non 2016 Tacoma has even engine produced in US. Yep because shitty frame was not bad enough.
However, If I am getting low quality US product, I rather pay cheap for it so Chevy would be my choice... (less loss)
Chinese level quality dictates Chinese level pricing. Overpaying for cheap junk is such a financially irresponsible move.
