I know exactly what you're talking about, sometime because the letters/decals are soo think peeling won't work. On my 04 I dipped the "Toyota Tacoma" wording on the sides, peeled off nearby bits, but instead of peeling right to the edge I used tooth picks to seperate the wording from excess dip. Then I carefully peeled the excess. also all the wording on the back of my bed was way to think to plasti dip unfortunately.

I noticed my emblems don't look like the edges are sharp like I've seen others. More of a relaxed edge.

We cleaned really good behind/around the letters before we did several light coats. We cleaned with qtips, removed any gunk and wiped clean with dry paper towels before we prepped and sprayed...

I cleaned the best I could. I think my emblems are just super smooth. I just scuffed them up this time

Ah shit, arent those decals?? On my trucks anything on the tailgate are stickers... Have you tried the door emblems yet?? If that tailgate "toyota" is just a decal then thats your problem right there! Cant really dip decals.. if there is no gap between emblem and body or there isnt a good hard angle the dip will just wanna keep pulling after you want it to stop.

Take another pic of your work there with a side/profile shot instead of straight on for us please? And give the door emblem a try if you havent. If you havent i bet youll get it first try just like in the pic i posted of mine a few posts ago! (i wouldnt scuff them though so u dont end up with scratched/dulled emblems in the future in case u or anyone else wants the dip gone, u shouldnt have to anyhow)

    Edit**
after looking into it the later model tacos seem to use a very low profile emblem on the tailgate, not decals like my trucks. I totally see how it would be hard to dip those things! Theyre just super thin/low and no real "break" at their edge, so the dip just becomes all one "piece" for lack of a better term. I still say hit the door emblems, i bet youll nail it!

By the way, you should really fill out(in your personal details) what type of truck youve got so we can all see what youve got and give you better info..year, motor, manual, auto, prerunner, 4wd...stuff like that.

I did the door emblems, it too s few tries and they still look choppy but I said screw it. I'll do the profile when I get time.
