So I changed my starter out last weekend, pulled my power steering line at the front axle so I could get the damn thing pulled out. All the fluid did end up draining out.

I did drive it without power steering fluid for about 25 miles. Just added power steering fluid and now in has the power steering "whine".

Did I just screw up my pump by driving without fluid or is that noise the fluid working itself through the system? I'm hoping it's the latter, but I'm not holding my breath.

    Thanks.

To replace it? Yeah, you can do it. It's just a couple bolts and the belt.

FYI - Next time disconnect the belt if you have to run the truck with no powersteering fluid.

Hopefully you didn't send metal into the Rack. when you change the pump make sure you flush the system really well.

not really but it will blow the seal on the cap. then Air can get it.

Nick. when you install the new pump get a few bottles of ATF. those pumps dont use Power steering Fluid.
1-Install the new pump, clean the resovor and install the pulley.
2- Only install the High Pressure line.
    3. Plug the hole coming out of the res. and take the return hose and put in a bucket.
4- Fill the res, and have some one turn over the motor as you keep pouring in new fluid, do not let it get to low....
also they need to turn the wheel lock to lock to clear up the rack.

then once you start seeing new fresh fluid coming out of the return hose. put the hose back on a res and top off the fluid.

    Then you should be good.

like some times it works and sometimes it dosent
you kinda have to rev the motor to get it to work
and when it dose work its not like it should
