Just bought a 2016 Tacoma SR with the 2.7. When driving under normal conditions the transmission drops to around 1100-1200ish rpms between shifts. It feels like the rpms are just too low and I get slight pedal vibration (as I read in the other thread) until it reaches 1500 or more. It also feels sluggish till the rpms come up. After that it is smooth and in its power range. Has anyone else noticed that the trans shifts to such a low rpm? My other truck that I still have and drive, the lowest is shifts to is 1500 rpms.

i have heard that the engine takes time to smooth out. people on here say it will feel better once you get past 1000k miles. however, even after that, the logic on the ecu is set to save fuel, so it will feel sluggish, and it will shift very soon and at low rpms to save fuel. only way to get around that is to hit the ect power every time.

the vehicle does adjust to your driving habits, so once the vehicle is broken in, might be advisable to reset ecu, hit the ect power, and run the vehicle hard. you'll start to notice extra power and the vehicle shifting later and by that time, vibration would be minimized.

I have not driven it with the ECT turned on. I will try that, but it just seems ridiculously low from the start. I have owned several cars/trucks with auto's and have never been this low of rpms between shifts and cruising.

its all in the ecu, it will try to save fuel and reduce emissions but that in tern leads to early shifting, sluggish accel and vibration when you're cruising at certain rpms. plus its a 4 cyl n the truck is pretty big.

You need to put on 1 million miles before the engine will smooth out? :annoyed:

Yeah it's not the power that is really the issue. When it's at 1500 rpms or higher the power is there and slugishness go away. My other truck never goes below 1500 when driving unless I totally let off the gas.
