who's fighting tooth and nail, instead of diving to ford or chevy, i would pull into a toyota dealership. theres no fighting tooth or nails. And i did say newer toyotas are not as reliable cuz they are made in america. but they they still use japanese parts which gives them an edge.

most american truck owners i know try to trade in before 100k miles. most toyota truck owners complain cuz their leaf spring is broken or frame is rotted and the truck has 200k miles on it.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Toyota replaced frames because they got taken to court. Giving them a credit for it, is like giving serial rapist credit for finishing his prison sentence.
I know that, because I jsut got new frame from them :D

    You aren't getting it.

You are claiming American vehicles are worse than Toyota, but Toyotas are just as much made in the US as the big 3. Your logic makes zero sense.

I do agree that Toyota stepped up to the plate with the rusted frames and played ball like an adult. They easily could of turned their backs and told everyone to pound sand. And I do agree that a lot of people became life long fans because of their response to that particular situation.

I had a 1994 Toyota Pickup that they bought back at 110% of blue book because of a rusted frame. On top of the buy back, they gave me a sweet deal on a 2004 tacoma xtra cab if I used my refund check on another Toyota. So that alone ensured I would keep them as my #1 vehicle. Where they lost me was when my 2012 started having issues with a shit clutch and they told me that I was a year outside of the recall range. 2011's had a recall for a new/stronger clutch and they couldn't agree that my 2012, which was bought in February, could of had a bad clutch in it.

In my eyes, their quality control has dipped and they rested on their laurels too much. The "people love us because we were the top dog in reliability" statement was their rock, which with the older models, you would be hard pressed to find ANYONE who could disagree. Today though, not so much.

I love the "made in Japan" stigma Americans still have. Mistsubishi builds everything in Japan. They also have one of the highest failure rates after 3 years. Also, most of the Japanese companies have done the same thing as the USA and distributed parts manufacturing to neighboring countries and southeast Asia... so other than the engine, frame and body most of the parts are still coming from other places than Japan.

I know of lots of 4th and 5th gen 4Runner guys with small issues with their suspension, radio, etc etc. On here you'd swear people still think the Japanese 4Runner is god for quality lol.

No I am, and it's hurting my head.

Toyota has been making in the US for a while. You are putting down American makers for made up reasons.

My wife owned a 2012 Hyundai for 3 years and almost 100K. No issues. You are painting with a wide, very stereotypical, brush.

Is it because its made in america or because cars/trucks are more complicated then say 15 years ago. Ill go with the later.

I dont think its because they are made in America. The old hondas and toyotas were a steering wheel and 4 tires, today they have complex information management systems, audio systems that are way more complex than a tape deck and 4 speakers.

TO make that sort of a comment, you would need to take the lowest grade model you can of a new car (I'm talking sub-fleet level creature comforts), and compare that car's reliability to the middle of the road line honda from 10 years ago. Technology leaves a lot of room for failure.

So why should I pass up an F150 for a Tundra that is headed south according to you?

Again Toyota has been making cars in the US for a long time. They can't only now just be starting to decline.

I've driven in many cars too. Doesn't mean I'm qualified to judge their reliability.

No doubt all automakers have made their mistakes and have had their share of problems. Like people have mentioned what I think matters is how a company responds to issues. I think in the past Toyota has done better than lets say GM. So I'll buy Toyota over GM any day.
I just think it's a bit childish to say ALL American cars are bad compared to foreign and have no logic or reasoning to back it up. It's not helpful information.

One thing that has driven me nuts when trying to research the reliability of the new F150's and the Tacos is getting reviews from people where it's nonsensical rambling and just biased BS. It makes the buying process harder, not easier.

Every car manufacturer has had their problems. I've been driving for 41 years. Bought and sold quite a few cars for myself and my family. I've owned Dodges, Chryslers, Chevy's, Olds, and more recently my Tacoma, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and now an F150. From my perspective, cars in general are better now than they've been in a long time. While technology makes systems more complicated, I think it also helps with production. Fit and finish has improved in my opinion, across the board. I hope not to jinx myself, but I've been lucky over the years with my cars. I think the worst issue I had was a steering rack going bad on a mid 80's Celebrity wagon I owned. It was just out of warranty and the dealer still covered the cost because I was a regular customer. The car manufacturers do have to keep on their game though. Takes a lot of time and effort to build a good reputation and only one or two screw ups to ruin it.
