I originally posted this over in Lighting but haven't received an answer so I'll see what I can find out over here.

So I've been searching the forum and I can't find an answer to this.

I recently installed an ARB bumper on my 2004 TRD, 5sp and just ordered some IPF 968 lights. I want them to come on independently and with the high beams, but not all the time with the high beams. So the positions for the lights:

    1) On
    2) Off
    3) On/Off with high beams.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a wiring diagram?

I found some good switches on OTRATTW (and they have a lot) but I'm not sure exactly which kind to get. Contra II,II,V,X? I emailed them but haven't heard back yet.

Also, which wire to tie into on the 1st Gen on the high beams if any one has experience with this.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could always just run it on an on/off function and turn it on with your high beams to make it easier.

Yeah, but if I'm driving on the highway then I'd like to isolate them to keep them off. But if I'm cruising through an elk zone, which I do often, then I'd like to keep them on and off with the brights. I figure it would be easier then always fumbling for a switch. But if I'm strictly off roading then I could keep them on.

Sounds like you want to have the same setup as I have. I have a switch for the light so that I can have it so that it will not come on with the high beams. Or come on with the high beams.

In my setup, no way to just run the light bar.

I have a relay for the switch so that the power for the light isn't going through the switch and a relay for my light bar, which is triggered by the high beams being powered.

I used a Toyota fog light switch. I just put in an ottraw switch for a homelink garage door opener and was surprised that I had to change the shape of the opening for it to fit.

Sounds like u want to tap into the High Beam trigger wire with a relay, then to a switch and lights from there.

Drew up a quick diagram for you. Feel free to critique it if you find an error and/or quicker way to do it.

Utilizes one 4-pin relay, two fuses, a quick splice, and a 3-position switch.uploadfromtaptalk1445292425031.jpg

simpler way is just wire it to the high beams using diodes (diodes only allow current to flow in one direction like a check valve) so hook it to the high beams and the high beams always will power on your lights but when the high beams are off, you turn them on and off with a simple on/off toggle switch only, the diodes will prevent voltage from going to the high beams to light them up when turned on by the switch.

after that just wire up your lights normally with a fused wire from the battery run to a simple on/off toggle switch only or run it to a relay so the power doesnt through the switch.

Yes!!!! This is what I need. Is a quick splice what would tap into the brights?

This sounds like what I want to do but I'm having a hard time picturing it. I'm not too savy with diodes and relays but I'm good with figuring stuff out when given some direction.

Yup. You would just need to figure out what wire is the +12v going to the high beams and you could use a quick spice for that.

Relays aren't hard to use. All they are is a solenoid, that when given power, connects two contacts. They prevent the need to run power into the cab, to a switch, then out to the accessory. Just gotta make sure you connect the wires to the right pins.
