I too miss the old guys in the booth. TV money has made the color commentary job so hard. The talking points are scripted so hard that the guys have almost no room to wax poetic about the good old days or dish good dirt. The stakes are too high with Ad money driving the whole thing. I have a friend who's dad was the director for a long time in the early days of ESPN coverage. He said TV $ ruined it so bad he quit and moved to MLB.

I still wanna know... Who payed them to suck off Alex Tagliani the day Regan Smith tagged him? I literally muted the TV it was so bad.... When this stuff become typical, its time for a change. I like the radio announcers, and that country interviewer from fox...

I think the Aussie guy you mentioned on NBC Sports is Leigh Diffy. I agree, his commentary is not great but he does know his stuff. I think he's better behind a keyboard or pen than on air.

I solved the problem of bad TV commentary years ago by turning on MRN or PRN coverage. Unfortunately MRN has hired Rusty Wallace. Rusty' coverage of Sunday's incident was clearly biased. In Rusty's mind, Penske has never had a driver close to his caliber. Rusty is like many UGA fans, in that he carries that "Where's MY championship?" Chip on his shoulder.

I've been pulling up Racebuddy on my computer and turning on the radio broadcast for Chase races this season.

I have a good broadcast, but doubt it would happen, open with Darrell pre show (he's good before the race), then radio announcers, and all interviews done by the country guy from fox. I keep forgetting his name...

I can't wait to see the 2016 aero package, yesterday's race wasn't great other than the late drama.

Is it similar to when the drivers could actually track each other down and pass earlier this year?

Yea I think they raced it at Kentucky and Darlington this year, or at least a version of it. Supposed to give less downforce and make the cars harder to drive.

The problem initially next year will be Goodyear developing decent tires for the new package so the racing at the beginning of 2016 most likely won't be what it is toward the end of the season.

My Atlanta tickets are week #2.... I just remember there was some package, and That's how Kyle kept winning... He'd track em down, draft, run, pass. It was actually more exciting all around... More passes throughout the field.

The new '16 package is similar to the package they ran at Kentucky & Darlington. I wish they'd just run that everywhere and let them have at it. Plate tracks will be the same ol' same ol'. Goodyear is already working on a softer tire compound that will run at every track next season except for the hard as a rock tires at the plate tracks. Not only are the plate tracks dinosaurs, but the tech that makes for poor racing. Bill France Jr. would've admitted their practices archaic and called for something to be done about it. He & Humpy Wheeler were pretty good at innovating for the sake of putting on a better show. Unfortunately we're stuck with Brian "Head up his ass" France who thinks everything is hunky dory as long as his swimming pool full of corporate cash is overflowing.

have you heard the guarantee Atlanta is offering for race weekend? Something like "Good weather or you get your money back"?

Oh. Yeah. Logano is going to eat it at Martinsville. y money would be on Harvick, Hamlin or Kyle Busch to win. Brad K. is probably going to lose his temper. Same for Matt Kenseth. Seems I recall him dumping all over Brian Vickers a few years back and then getting obliterated later on.

About freaking time, on these long green runs and teams running "strategy" and take two tires and are still competitive is ridiculous.

Here's what I like. Minimal talking. Let the scene set itself. The tracks are marvelous stages for an epic event if the TV cameras would hold some sustained wide shots rather than ESPN & Fox's "hypertight" coverage style. By the way, Hypertight exists solely because sponsors want their names taking up as much of the TV screen as possible. Check out Ken Squier just shutting up and letting the setting and the cars do the talking as they approach the green flag and lap 1. Check out how the cars fanned out, with restrictor plates, I might add:

Some talking is good, its just when they don't know what to say.... Which is most of the time... They do advertise too much. That what I like about the drivers Facebook... You see more of the real them and not advertising... Look up Harvick's page.... Shows his family life with his son.... And kyles shows him being a goon with Samantha

    In crappy news:

The Race Team Alliance, which I'd hoped to serve as a Union for the independent teams, owners and drivers has revealed itself to simply be a way for the Haves to secure their income and force out the little guys in the sport. The RTA is rapidly pushing a franchise model for NASCAR that would feature 36 "Charters," ie. Locked in teams for every race. This reduces the importance of qualifying almost completely. What you'll have is 36 guys locked in no matter what and ten to fifteen teams vying for only seven actual starting spots in the field but GET THIS:

The RTA wants to reduce the field from 43 cars to 40 meaning only four spots will be up for grabs each week. The reason being, prize $ is redistributed over 40 cars rather than 43, meaning more garuanteed cash for the HAVES and more of a financial gamble for the have nots.

This sucks. NASCAR has always operated with the idea that teams are independent contractors. The potential good of this is *possibly* a decent healthcare and retirement program for teams & drivers all the way down to the little guys back in the shop. I hope.

43 on The track! With all that money people pay Xfinity to get the channels for the races, they can afford it.
