engineers and designers of the 3rd gen forget to take into consideration that the world is " NOT " flat when they are sitting at their desks and looking at a computer screen .
Not going to say this is the problem , however i have seen instances in design where you could tell there was zero compensation for a round world .
More of this is noticed in the transmission trade with loss of fluid on inclines and turning corners at high acceleration and in most cases the vehicle was a 4x4

EDIT , as we have already learned and its well documented as a proven fact , Dealers were not checking the automatic transmission fluid on the second gen trucks . Here is the link for proof https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...is-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.312718/
Might I suggest that they are not checking the trans fluid on the 3rd gen when they send you on your way in your brand new 2016 ?
I hate to say it but if you are planning on a 2016 purchase with an auto trans , please request that they check the transmission fluid before you leave the dealership .
Call me paranoid , I dont care . If you are spending 40k on a new truck , the dealership better make darn good and sure the fluids are topped off before we leave the lot
With this said , it may not be the answer to the OP,s question as I also beleive its a computer glitch or software issue , but for heavens sakes , check the fluids when you send your customers on thier merry way . They just purchased a new truck from you and trust that something simple like topping off fluids is part of your quality control.
how many mis-diagnosed torque converters did this cost Toyota on the 2nd gen and how many of your customers had to pay out after driving low on fluid for a year or two . There is a heads up here foŕ those of you who are reading this for the first time .

I don't know what you talking about. Obviously this vehicle is not made to drive on inclines. People should drive their vehicles as designed.
2gr engine in minivans and cars have no problems, because people drive on pavement. My point is maybe op drove on too steep incline.

Do you read what you write before hitting the "post reply" button? You mean to tell me a Tacoma Offroad 4x4 is not supposed to drive on any inclines and should remain on flat pavement? lmao..

Majority of people who purchase Tacoma do not offroad, just like majority do not tow, or carry anything in bed.
If majority of people do not tow why install disc brakes, if people do not offroad why put engine that burns more fuel because is designed for offroading.
Drums are adequate, so is car engine. Op is clearly misusing vehicle, and blaming Toyota. Stay on flat roads just like other cars and there will be no issue.
    I see here only misuse.
    :p

Ehhh just ignore that BlueT dude. He tries to cover up his complete lack of knowledge about vehicles by trying to troll.

Once you realize the dude is just an uneducated clown and has nothing better to do with his time than troll forums, you start to just laugh at his bullshit out of pity.

I am just pointing out that this problem does not occur on flat roads. Also I am repeating what others had wrote about reasons for drums.... oh the irony...
    I bet @gearcruncher is correct.
Either low on fluid or Chinese made heads for that engine are keeping oil at the top.
Recall in second month on the engine would be too funny. :D

Unfortunately my job requires to me to be on slopes over 10 degrees all day. If this is the case... I should probably just crush it. Hahaha

    Update 2:

Left the dealer. No codes showing up in the ECU history or anything. Ran a full health/diagnostic for a few minutes and everything's just fine. Tech doesn't know what to do. Service manager didn't know what to do. Idk what to do now...

Tech said it possibly could have stalled, and that's why those warnings came up. But then had no suggestion why it could have stalled.

So... Fuc$. Hope it was a fluke and never happens again. Especially not on a 15% slope doing 30mph... Or else you ain't hearing from OP again.

OP, for peace of mind perhaps you should try to duplicate that scenario some place safe and with anticipation that something might happen pay closer attention to the instruments. I think its quite possible that low atf and oil pressure lights came one after the stall.

    ARRGHH !!!

There is nothing worse than going to the trained professionals and getting an " I dunno "
They performed a scan as its the first thing they are trained to do
Gotta ask ? did they re-create the problem by jacking up the rear of the truck to 18 degrees ?
Did they check the fluids in the engine and the trans ?

Thanks swimmer. I tried to duplicate it again with the same scenario, and even on steeper slopes over the 30% pitch gauge indicates. Hehe that's fun. But nope, couldn't duplicate it after about 6 times.
