I agree with the above. 3.5 V6 and manual is surprising me now that its broken in enough to use it harder. Coming from a long string of v8 pickups and a Land Cruiser with gobs of torque, this is going to be OK

I want the manual but I want the JBL system too

I'm personally not worried about power at all.. I know it will have more than enough for what it is and I don't plan to race in a taco anyway.. I have a car for that.

That's good to know about the M/T. I never owned anything but manual #1 being the cost associated with repairs when it goes south. Manuals are for those who really enjoy driving and don't see it as a chore. Keep the Stick Alive. $.02

I just Blew up my MT and clutch (actually my wife did) in our Honda CRV - only cost me $1600 to rebuild the whole shebang.... first issue with M/Ts since forever (40+years). Thought of the new auto tranny with all that electronics ... was real easy to keep going with the stick.

Well, I don't think anyone wants to race in the Taco, but you'd expect to have as much power as the competition when paying the same price and getting the same mpg. It's really kinda of crazy to me that the Colorado gets the same ore better MPG with more low-end torque and HP. It's nice to be able to pull on to a freeway comfortably. :)

I may be completely wrong, but my impression when driving the 2016 is that the engine is in Atkinson cycle when pedal depression is light. It seems that the computer doesn't recognize the need for torque unless the pedal is depressed considerably, but once that is done, the Otto cycle kicks in and the engine then seems to have plenty of torque even at relatively low rpms.

Yeah exactly, drive like gradma and get 17mpg or drive it and have fun and get 16mpg. Hit the pedal, hold on cause you're in for some fun, specially in 4WD-LO. This truck will not disappoint on power trust me.

I had a F-150 try to beat me out today on the highway - he passed me going 85, just put the pedal down a tad and ran up to his tail gate (not too close) and stayed there - I had A LOT more room at 95mph, I was just cruising and the F-150 was all over the place at 95mph so I backed off, he was easing into the shoulder, didn't want to get rocks on my glass. I don't think he was trying to test my dick size or anything but he was driving like an asshole but yeah not that powerful and not very good handling on the F-150 at speed. I had no issues, and felt like I was driving a Caddy at 95!! It was nice, controlled, steady and kept the line I wanted even going into and out of freeway turns.

I think anyone complaining about power hasn't hit the pedal. TBH I'm still taking it easy, only have 500 miles on her. MPG is improving as I learn how to manage gas mileage, granny style.

I've got a quick 1300 mile trip coming up later this week and hope to experiment further, looking forward to it.

I don't think that the manual transmission and JBL audio are mutually exclusive...I had read that the JBL option could not be had with the manual transmission, and I couldn't build it on Toyota's site with that option. However, after checking with my dealer, he said that it's just that Toyota has not yet built any like this yet. Take it with grain of salt, since I haven't heard that it's being delivered, but he did give me the available option sheet to show that it should be possible. I'm trying to get a DCSBOR 6MT, for which the code is 7545. You can see in the option category for Premium & Technology Package with JBL Audio, that the model number 7545 is clearly listed...

Wait until you have 1500 miles - how's this for backward: I drove one tank "easy" to try to get the better mileage without using the throttle too hard, saw 24.2 MPG. Next tank, I'm much more heavy on the gas, hitting 5K+ often; I'm seeing almost 25 at the same 375 miles driven. DCSB, TRD Sport, V6 Auto.

When you go to configure the vehicle and select the Manual Transmission option on Toyota's dealer "build" site, it will not let you choose the JBL option. I believe that they cannot be had together

Awesome!! Thanks for posting this up. I'm definitely going to talk to my dealership about this. I have no problem waiting to get exactly what I want.

The Toyota build page will only let you build stuff that is available near the zip code you entered. If what gotthebug's salemen says is true and Toyota has yet to make any of the dcsb 6mt's w/ JBL then it would make sense that no one can build one on the website.

That configuration sheet that includes 7545 (dcsbor 6mt) under the JBL option is a great sign that they will indeed make a 6mt dcsbor with JBL eventually. It certainly could be a typo though which will be unfortunate.

It would not be surprising if Toyota is holding off on producing that particular configuration during the first few months. It definitely won't ever be a high volume configuration and demand is high right now so concentrating on more standard configurations seems logical.

I always say that I'll get an auto for my next truck and then I get in my taco and swear I'll never get an auto. Every vehicle I've ever owned was a manual and I'm pretty sure they always will be. I truly enjoy driving my tacoma, or just driving in general. I bought my taco new in 2012 and still find my self looking for excuses to drive it three years later. It's the perfect overland vehicle I guess.

I agree, in 50 years of driving and over 25 vehicles I've only had 3 autos, would have preferred manuals in them as well.
