Yeah ive been readin a good bit as of late, pickin up things here and there. As for the bells and whistles comment, from my lack of understanding it just seems there are alot of different options for the same component and i dont want any junk, ya know what i mean? How about the wiring, seems like some setups are plug and play like stock and others require modification, am i right? At what point is that necessary?

Here's another member building and selling them, also in the $500+ range. Seems like thats kinda how it is price wise if youre not doing the labor yourself??

Honestly you could call or email theretrofitsource and tell them what you want. There stuff is pretty much the best you can get to my understanding and its all plug and play. And least my h1 kit was.

I got the h1 kit with some Amber halos, and the only thing I had to do was some filing to get the wires for the halos, out the back of the headlights. I also had to drill some holes in the shroud to wires the halos too.

So do the halos require a wiring mod or do they just get spliced into the original wiring? Or??

Depends what you want, do you want them on a switch? Or tied into something else? We just tired it into a wire that's hot only when the key is on. So they are on all the time as long as the key is on. Now if you get Amber halos and plan to run them constantly on, you have to get the xa Amber halos I think.

I took apart a set of used headlights once and painted the reflectors black, and then lost interest, the time and $$ to do a retrofit. Hell, I never even wanted to remove my car's bumper to remove the original headlights. Separating the lenses can be the most onerous part. Patience and a warm oven. Nothing, nothing, nothing and then ... smoosh, they come apart ...

The crux of what I think bry838 is concerned about is that the various pieces are sold as components, not kits specific to any particular vehicle. A retrofitter does more than assemble the parts, he knows the recipe in order to do so.

I'm not complaining, just to trying to also sort this out. Last night I looked at Andrew's group buy thread and did a mock run on the TRS site, selecting the parts recommended to get the 25% discount. I may or may not have still picked them correctly, but I was just pretending anyway.

Now gray223, when you say cutting isn't involved ... no dremel work ? That gets my attention. I realize this stuff isn't 100% bolt-on, but if it's pretty close to that then hells yeah I'll do it myself.

One question for you. I read that if you use 2DS projectors you can "get better bulbs later." (Which begs the question, why not get them to begin with?) I barely can remember the halogen differences between what fits a 9003 and what's an H4 etc. So ... HID bulbs are different, how (assuming similar color temp and so on.)?

Edit: I don't mean how are HID bulbs different from halogen, but different from each other ... thanks

With the h1 kit, I did not have to do any kind of dremel work. Now the d2s are bigger I think, and cutting may be involed. I know the fx-r need dremel work. I would ask Andrew.

They will fit in your 00 housings by just placing them in but theyl stick out and not be as flush/clean as if they were cut to fit.

Yes thats exactly what i want, thats the look! Did u buy black housings or paint? If u used your stock housings and painted, where does a guy find nice new clear lenses that dont disperse light, like an oem style does? And to be clear those h1's are plug and play and the halos are just simply run to any power source of your liking?

Damn i want those in your pic there!!! Why dont you just go ahead, uninstall, box those up and send em on out to me?? Shoot me an invoice!!

You paint that housings. I used rustoleum flat black with no issues but a lot of people recommend krylon paint because it is designed for plastics. I bought new headlights and the lenses do not disperse light.

H1 and D2S are plug and play (after you run the wiring harness). FXR requires a lot of cutting. You can splice the wiring to your parking lights to illuminate the halos.

With the 25% discount on projectors with halos and new headlights you are looking at around $365

Retrofitting is not hard to do at all. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Those housings you bought, did u get em just for the lenses and painted your oem's, or did ya paint and utilize the new ones? Just silicone the lenses to reseal??

As far as the wiring harness...does that just entail splicing into the original harness, wire for wire so to speak? Or?

I bought the new headlights for the lenses and used the housing. With the projector you can get headlight resealer which I highly reccomend. I have used it twice and have not had an issue with leaking/moisture. The only splicing you will have to do is for the halos. The harness does not require any splicing.

Ahh okay, the way u mentioned "after you run the wire harness" i interpreted it wrong. So besides the halo it truly is just plug n play?

After you assemble the projector and run the harness you just plug and play.

Thanks for the clarification on the subject.

The headlight sealer, it can be bought along with the projectors? Do the lenses on the new housings just pop apart or are they sealed on? Have to use heat to separate?

Yes, it's an option you can add on. The headlights are sealed. I threw mine in the oven to separate them.
