Technically, the factory ~20% or so in the rear is illegal in MA. But, because it's OE equipment and virtually every vehicle now has "illegal" tint when rolling off the production line it would never be something they could enforce.

Tint shop near here told me the front windows of almost every new vehicle have some amount of tint. It's small--something like 95%, and primarily for UV protection, but it's there. You can tell if you roll down your window a tiny bit and look at the sky on a bright day.

In NY legal tint is 30% and I got 25%. Do police officers have a way to test it?

I know in Va they do, some carry a meter that will test the % right there and will make
you remove it RIGHT THERE on the side of the road if you want to avoid the fine.

Yes. They have a meter that they put up against the glass that measures how much light can pass through.

If you're not obviously way over (by eye) and don't give them a reason to nitpick, they would probably never check it.

Yes through a tint meter. Will they notice? Hell no, it's only a 5% difference.

right, that's why I mention the 70%. I was under the impression that 70 was just a uv blocking
yes, a meter, I don't think 5% is a big deal, but I don't live in NY, all my cars have been illegal. Never had an issue

This this. Glass is actually stained in the rear. Won't keep rays out. I went with 35 in rear, 20 up front.

Why would you go darker in the front than the rear?

Light from the windshield, plus the rear is a darker shade. So when all is said and done, they look the same.

Ok so 35 over whatever it came with from the factory? I'm not sure if they are all the same across the board.

Looks good. This is probably what I'll end up doing. Where did you get it done? How much?

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
My tint guy used the meter on mine to verify my rear windows 1st and they measured at 28%. I put on 30% in the front (although I'm too dark for MA law) because the factory has 3% on it and it looks like an exact match.
