At this time I have no plans to get the flash, I will be searching out some sort of data logger to monitor to monitor the knock sensor and verify that I'm not pulling timing etc. etc. 11.1 is a hair rich but very safe, outside of boost its dead nuts on to factory tune, so I'd say its good as is.

I will eventually get a smaller pulley, headers, y-pipe etc. and will upgrade as it goes. Might mess with the next step up in pulley's just to see how the computer reacts. Waiting for the UCONN before I go to the smallest pulley.

I like people who throw caution out the window  I have been waiting for the UCONN since 2012 so I'm quite sure you'll be waiting longer or you can run the Superchip, I heard it's a plug and play setup. Only down side I heard about the Superchip is finding a Superchip tuner unless your brother can figure out the Superchip fuel mappings

I'd be curious to see the fuel trim values without the flash also.

The TRD engineers did not come up with a new map because the stock one was acceptable. And there is more to a map than A/F ratio, such as ignition timing. Just because you didn't experience knock at 65 degrees doesn't mean you won't at 30 degrees or 100 degrees. Your knock sensors are a reactive system that only work after potentially damaging detonation has already occurred. It is all fun and games till someone cracks a piston. I would not recommend anyone try this.

My knock sensors just throw me a code, saying to replace them. I still need to get my ECU and wiring checked out soon.

I'm running premium but the truck was factory installed. Up to this date idk if Toyota or TRD did a flash on my truck.

Yea I'm gonna go ahead and stay on the reflash. As said above, Toyota reflashes for more than just A/F ratio...if it were that simple, alot more people wouldn't reflash and would just self tune

It also compensates for larger injectors which come with the TRD s/c.

To prevent the OEM injectors from being maxed out. Especially once additional mods are added.

I thought it was a "must do" sort of thing to have the ECU flashed but I guess not? This is the first I've heard of this.

A dealer should easily be able to tell if it was done or not. I'd double check.

Just like putting premium in is a "must do".

Do not confuse bad advice with correct engineering practice. I'm pretty sure the TRD engineers are far more qualified in determining the fuel map requirements than guess and check.

The only time you can get away with no Toyota Reflash, as far as I know, is if you have UCON or a similar tuning device that can adjust all your major engine settings and ECU stuff.

 For the "I blew my engine up and I'm trying to put a warranty claim in" thread

This guy now has me nervous though. My dealer didn't write ECU reflash on my invoice. And I just figured if they forgot to reflash it that a code would show up. But now with him saying all this I'm not sure.

Anyone know another way I can tell if it was flashed? Besides asking the dealer(which I just did). Who knows, they might say they did it just to save face. Or the mechanic might tell them he did it to not get in trouble or something.

Edit: Just heard back from Dealer and he assured me they flashed it. Feel better now. But still wish there was a way to tell

Easy there fat Jesus, lets slide the rhetoric back there. This "bad advice" was not once meant to instruct people to run around with out proper tuning (whether that be the TRD flash or UCONN or otherwise). As stated in my first post on the subject it was intended solely for people driving to the dealer after they performed the install themselves. Everyone seems to freak out about driving from the location of install to the dealer for the flash stating that you need to be super careful. My point was, drive to the dealer like a normal sane person and don't sweat it. If you drive around without proper tuning or a way to monitor it you aren't very bright :D....

Now I'll admit the conversation did then turn to what I am personally doing. I can't advise anyone to follow those footsteps because it is all so fresh. ... along those lines my brother and I had already scheduled more testing to make sure all is well. If anything changes I'll be sure and update, good or bad.

Not sure how I feel about this, the first gen's got a supercharger and zero support until people started having real problems. Personally this leads me to believe that they are just covering their ass and did a basic tune that creates a blanket safety net across the board (mostly because of assholes like all of us whom modify our vehicles well past where the intended use). Personal opinion here.

I agree with this whole heartedly.

    Quote from Gadget:
"There is a good reason why TRD does not include fuel and ignition upgrades with their [Gen1] supercharger kit. I was told by the folks at TRD the reason they do not do so is that they are being restricted by Toyota. TRD is part of Toyota in North America and because they are an arm of the manufacturer they would have to submit the entire kit with upgrades for EPA approval just like it was a new complete car. There simply is not enough profit in the supercharger kits to cover the cost of getting something like this through the EPA approval process, so can not include ignition and fuel system upgrades and the engine will run without them, but I can tell you for certain, it will run so much better with some additional tweaking in the fuel and ignition system. That is my understanding of what I was told by the folks at TRD."
    http://www.gadgetonline.com/Super.htm

Even good engineers can be blocked by corporate bean counters.

Toyota did it right in the 2nd gen SC, and provided a much more complete package with the upgrades and the tune to prevent 'real problems' and have a superior running kit.
