^ I've seen it happen in Toyota forums on other models, just not a Tacoma. Camry and a couple others IIRC. It's just a game of chance. Those were something like $400 for the part.

You can't tell if the tank is full. Fuel will not spill out from the tank while you are over filling it. You are over filling your tank

I have one friend who has gone thru two Evap Cannisters cause she keeps topping off her Chevy by a gallon. It starts by constantly popping an error code and eventually the unit fails. Finally convinced her to stop topping off, we'll see how it goes.

IF you are on the road, ie jumping right back into a long haul after you fill up, a bit extra in the tank/fill neck won't be an issue. And certainly you won't have any 'faster than the gas tank expansion' issues.

What you don't want to do is fill the whole neck so it backflows fuel into the emissions system, as has already been indicated.

Since neither of my Toyotas have an issue with air burping stopping the fill too early (some vehicles are bad about this) I just let it cut off on it's own. ScanGauge user here too, and as mentioned, helps keep the calculations more consistent.

The dealer doesn't care if they get service work. They make money performing warranty service.

The dealer may not....but the salesman does. A happy customer is more likely to return and/or send him business.

I thought you meant the salesman was informing you so they could deny your warranty claim when you brought a dead Charcoal Canister in

No, I think what "kahanabob" was saying.... was his salesman told him not to top-it-off has it may not be covered under warranty if damage occurs.

I just let mine shut off so I can attempt to get the same amount in every time. Makes me feel better when calculating mileage

I had a 2000 camry that had CEL and I am convinced it was from the wife topping the tank each refill. I finally got her to change that bad habit and no problems since on any other of our Toyotas.

Usually it is on the order of ounces. I have no idea why people do it other except to round dollars (perfectly acceptable). I think some people just have weird habits that are ingrained in them because of the old days when you might get another gallon or more. The auto-shutoffs are quite sensitive today and generally get you full.

Granted, there are a few cars that have problems filling in general and are hypersensitive. I have scion that won't fill at a lot of stations unless you turn the handle upside down and never squeeze fully, however most cars are 99.5% full at the first click.

Same here bro. I've owned 7 Toyotas and have always put in on avg 2 more gallons . Never had a check engine light or gas tank blow up on me . On a side note I also remove the charcoal filter because fuck the epa.
