If anyone is interested, I can offer vinyl inserts for the tailgate lettering in a variety of colors and patterns, similar to this. If there is sufficient interest I will post details in the Buy/Sell section.
UPDATE: They are for sale here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fs-2016-toyota-tacoma-vinyl-decal-tailgate-inserts.398784/

Now offering white, red, gloss black, light gray, dark gray, dark gray metallic, and silver metallic, all in gloss finish! PM me if you are interested.

WARNING: Please beware that at least one other Ebay seller is using one or more images from this forum to sell their vinyl decals and refuses to remove them. While I find this flattering, you should avoid sellers that refuse to show the actual product that they are selling.

No because there are no hard edges to peel off to get the nice cut edges of the letters.

I feel like using a credit card or a tool like that while peeling it would allow you to make it work

Nope wouldn't work, you could try and report back but it wont be worth your time. You'll be doing it for hours.

Yea I am not going to buy a 2016 and a can of dip just to experiment for the 16 owner's. If I had a 16 I would try for the cost of a 6 dollar can of plasti dip. But the $6 for the can and then the price of the truck is to much for me to care what happens, lol!

The plastidip may work, but the key would be taping off the area, that might be a bit tricky with the curves.

Sign me up for matte black. Just saw a tundra yesterday with this, and couldn't help but drool.

If the vinyl was $20 even, why not spend the $20 on a $30k+ truck rather than derp it anyway ..

You cared enough to post several times defending your nonsense but don't care enough when logic applies. All righty then.
