Chevy actually makes pretty good trucks. However you can't argue with reliability, resale value, and off-road performance. Although the truck is brand new, I don't expect it to fall short of the last gen when it comes to resale and reliability.

Chevy actually makes pretty decent full sized trucks. Fixed it for you.

My remark wasn't directed to you per se, just a generalized view on most users. I didn't imply that you weren't doing your due diligence on tire maintenance and such.

It's hard to blame Toyota (or any other manufacturers) offering run-flats but without a spare tire. The blame really goes to the majority of consumers who constantly complained and demanded more interior room, storage space, etc. Well guess what, you get what you asked for, but no more room-wasting spare tire for you.

Now I don't know if the new Rav4 did away with a spare tire or not, but due to consumer "demand," they no longer place a full-size spare on the outside of the hatch door, which is a great place to put a spare aside from the slight visibility issue. Nothing that can't be solved by a rear camera.

I'm willing to bet you can buy and install same size but non-runflat tires on the Sienna. If I were you, that's what I would've done plus get a space-saving spare and stash that in the cargo area somewhere.

Sometimes it depends on who you ask or talk to. If you ask the parts department of a Toyota dealership, of course they might say there's no other equivalent non-runflat tires and forces you to buy the runflats and get them to install, which means double profit for them.

I had good luck on finding different tire choices through Tirerack, and surely many here would know other trustworthy places for tire selection.

It appears that the runflats, from a quick check of Toyota.com, only come on the AWD models. So likely the reason for no spare is that the rear AWD system requires the space the spare normally occupies. The size of the tires is P235/55R18. I can get four decent all weather, not just all season but better, installed for under $800 CAD according the kaltire.ca . Not knowing the load rating that's about the best guess I can make on what would fit his Sienna. Find a spare in the same diameter and a rim for under $300 and problem solved. If he wants to save some money of course.

The only AWD configuration I can find is P235/55R18 but you are correct that he should verify the rim, tire, and load rating before installing any tire.

BTW I've always had to "special order" tires. Usually by special order that means they have to ship them from 120 miles away with 24 hour shipping to get them to my location. No biggie. Or is he saying no one can get them from warehouse and it would take a longer waiting period?

Here's a tire rack tire that's run flat and in stock. Again, it's up to OP to check that the specs match his tire:

Yup. It's what I'd call a good run around tire, but not so good for any bad conditions.

I noticed this too. Never saw one in the last 8 years here in central VA, they were always Camry and Corolla.

Yea, I am sure there are options. But if Toyota just thought it through, it wouldn't have to be such a headache.
It's because it's a new truck...first time since 2005. They are letting the world know that they updated the truck. However, we all know that GM scared the crap out of them. ;)

Yeah. The funny thing is I loved my performance Potenza's on my Alero way back in the day. I'm not saying the Alero is a performance car, because it's just a Grand Am commuter type car, but in the mountains where I used to run away every weekend for shenanigans with friends they were hand and fist above anything else I had tried at the price point on the windy tight highways.

This is true....but that five percent of the market is dedicated buy.
Like Toyota, there is a market who "will" buy a particular product and there is no problem selling it. If you advertise a Glock in a gun mag and a Toyota in a car mag, you will get more calls for the Glock.
