    Quick background:

1.6" Eibach coils with billy 5100

    1.5" Wheeler AAL

    4.0 4x4 DCSB.

ECGS bushing didn't fix my take off vibes. It does go away in 4x4. I have no Vibs other than between 10-20 (mostly under load at take off.) if I take off very gently, it won't vibe. I also have a buzz/growl at 20 mph only - no audible noise, more like a fast vibe instead of the slow take off vibe. I need to know what to replace next, I'm thinking U joints?

Recap - NO vibes in 4x4, ECGS bushing didn't fix me up, and a fast buzzing type vibe at 20. After 20mph, I don't have any vibes at all.

    Recommendations are appreciated.

Did you do the CB drop? I put in the bushing with the lift so I don't know if mine ever vibed. I do have a mild vibe with take off, but it's gone just as fast.

Yes I did the CB drop, but what leads me to the U joints is the vibe goes away in 4x4 which I thought indicated a non carrier bearing vibe.

I have EXACT same vibrations as you and have done CB drop, front diff bushing and rear axle shim. After loading my truck with 2 dirtbikes, filling the back seats with luggage and tools the vibration went away. Truck say about 1.5" lower than normal in the rear. I will be removing the smallest spring from my Toytec progressive AAL this weekend to see what happens..

The vibe you both describe sounds a lot like the one I had when I first installed my lift. I installed the CB drop and it helped a little. So, I made my own CB drop that was approximately twice as thick as the OME version. Fixed me right up! No vibes. Cant say thats what it will be for you but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will be replacing all three of my U joints on Monday, because it's worth a shot for $50 - I'll keep you updated. If that doesn't work, I'll definitely try the extended CB drop. Also @YotaDriver631 let me know what you find out with your Mod. I have the 2+Overload with a 1.5" wheelers AAL, I don't want to remove it, but I would to fix it permanently. Thanks for the replies!

    What tires do you have?

I have the takeoff vibe which I live with, but I had a growl/grind at exactly 15 MPH, although mine didn't matter if I was accelerating, coasting, turning or braking that didn't go away in 4WD that ended up being tires.

It may not help you, but try playing with your tire pressure and/or swapping a set of highway treads if you have something aggressive just to rule out tire noise. I swore I had a wheel bearing/CV/damaged ECGS bushing that ended up being tires only. I was almost ready to sell the truck since it stumped the mechanics I went to and passed every test for those items!

I still want to eventually look into the CB drop just to get things even tighter than they are now.

I have 265/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers, but I just put them on a week ago. I've had this problem long before the tires - went from the stock 245/75/16 Dunlops. The larger tire actually made things less noticeable, but nonetheless, same issues.

I replaced all three U joints - my 20mph growl is gone, but my take off vibes aren't. Next step, the 1.5" CB drop.

ECGS bushing has NOTHING to do with the vibes you are talking about FYI. (but its a good thing that you did it as there can be other vibes from a front lift).

The vibes go away in 4wd as it essentially removes any axle wrap and load from the rear driveshaft.

The vibes you are experiencing are due to rear driveshaft oscillation at the center carrier bearing due to a u joint angle at the center joint. Go to the hardware store and buy some washers (and 2 longer bolts if necessary) and use them to shim the CB down about half an inch. This should be a good starting place. Then add some more, does it get worse or better??? then go from there. Dont buy a "CB drop kit" they are over priced and you can get the same outcome with about 3 bucks in 2 bolts n washers from the hardware store.

Your going to have to check your ujoint operating angles and correct with CB adjustments and/or axle shims.

Ditch the center support bearing setup and go to a 1 piece drive line. Eliminates the vibe, and other issues associated with the two piece drive line. One of the first things I did to my truck and still one of the smartest.

YUP. It's worth it. Also then you can pop your 2 piece driveshaft apart and keep it as a spare.

or if you are a 4x4 (because you have a slip joint after the cb) the much cheaper option would be to get a nice center carrier bearing (i want to say older ford ranger CB's work) that have a solid rubber piece then setup driveline angles proper.

The take off vibes commonly felt are due to the floppy dick rubber in the stock center carrier bearing. When there is any angle at that center u joint it puts a side load on the CB, this causes a harmonic oscillation of the driveshaft within the CB.... the bigger the center u joint angle the more it will vibrate. The reason why the CB rubber is so floppy is due to the driveshaft design of the PRERUNNER. The prerunner has NO slip joint, it handles the extension and contraction of the driveshaft by sliding in and out of the TRANSMISSION, this means the driveshaft moves forward and back within the CB necessitating a CB rubber thats very flexible.... a horrible design. And unfortunatly the CB was carried over to the 4x4's even though we have a fixed flange at the transmission and a slip joint AFTER the center u joint.

Just a thought... what is the design or part number of a 3rd gen CB? Toyota has said they "fixed" the vibration issues. Here is hoping that we could just swap out the CB with a 3rd Gen part and be on our merry way. Thoughts?

Wouldn't trust it haha. Toyota hasn't been able to fix the vibration in years, they can't even figure out their own steering column. Also from what I've heard the 16's have their own set of new problems like stalling on an incline. Go get an aftermarket carrier bearing, or just bite the bullet and have someone local make you a 1 piece driveshaft.

I have yet to get under and grab the driveshaft on the 2016 to see how floppy the CB is. BUT what would be easier would be to get some permatex ultra black or some other rubber silicone and fill the stock CB to stiffen it up, thats my plan when i get some time.
