NP. Glad I can help.
That oil pan in bottom left is from 2016 Tacoma so its exactly how its in your truck. I would not go on any inclines with that, and especially on any steep descend unless you want to shorten your engine life.
If you really need to drive on steep hills I would suggest looking for one of the last 2015 trucks.

 

Parking brake only works on the rear wheels, it won't hold anywhere near as much as the hydraulic (service) brakes.

 

Should have kept reading the thread.. couple other people already called me out on it only engaging the rears which I admittedly had forgotten about.

If to believe some of the posts, Toyota on purpose made the Tacoma so it would not perform like the past generations.
Maybe Toyota plans to make the current model so poor as to loose sales and decide not to sell the Tacoma anymore. We all know other companies have left the small truck market in the US.

In fact, his posts have been so helpful, that I decided against buying a Tacoma or any other Toyota, as obviously they suck as a company. Thanks to BlueB, I am now looking at purchasing a Nissan Frontier, as it is a far superior vehicle in every aspect.

Hey TreeHugger, when I saw this post I thought WTH? I would feel I couldn't trust my Taco! I am in Texas, but I drive to the far north of Canada /Alaska once or twice a year. My first thought was I could be coming down a steep icy hill and it would stall ...........Pulling the emergency brake only locks the rear wheels, steering and controlling would be difficult. I CANNOT have it stalling. Anyways after all the comments from everyone I did NOT want to say anything that was not a little constructive or had a little different view. I was a tech for over 20 years quite a few years ago so I am by no means an EXPERT on any of the new state of the art equipment.

Someone mentioned you should never be parked on a steep incline, drive on very steep hills etc. Okay, well all vehicles including my new TACO, were thoroughly tested for these types of conditions to drive and test under; maybe not for being parked, but tested nonetheless. I have worked for a few dealerships, and this type of the research and documentation was always prevalent to confirm that the vehicles had been tested and adhered to certain standards. When we are driving up hills and at different angles many things come into play. A little physics lesson ... if you take a bucket and fill it with water and tie a rope to it and swing it around over your head; you will notice the water stays in the bucket and does not fall out... as it goes with the momentum. So when we are driving at higher speeds, around sharp corners, up inclines etc this momentum comes into play with the fluids in our vehicles. When you are parked on the side of a steep hill, I will agree the oil will move to the bottom most of the pan based on gravity, but it will be the sensor for the oil pressure that would trigger something in the ECU telling it the oil pressure was low. This should definitely record something in the Fault Codes. Our new Tacos have synthetic oil and with the synthetic oil from "my" past experiences, the engine can run for a little while without any oil as the synthetic oil adheres to the main/rod bearings and internal components: so the engine should be safe. The problem was it stalling and NOT knowing what caused it.

Well I have some other vehicles: one is a Ford 2002 Explorer, and actually LAST WEEK it had stalled. I thought MAF or IAC or even an oxygen sensor, but NO CODES were showing up. I was like what the heck. Then I remembered ONE thing I have forgotten that we do NOT have anymore ............. we don't have .......... Quality GASOLINE. We have E85, E87 with corn and other crap mixed in with it. Even Premium is NOTHING compared to the Gasoline of yesteryear when I raced cars on the 1/4 mile strip and could just add a can of Octane Boost to give it more power. I was thinking that maybe the engine was trying to burn some other CRUD that wasn't just gasoline and had just faltered. Or another thing could be the amount of WATER that is in the gasoline. I also used to work for a transport company that delivered gasoline, and I learned to NEVER EVER EVER fill up your vehicle when they are adding fuel to the storage tanks at the gas station. The fuel being dumped in the tank mixes up with water that was created by condensation etc so sometimes the pumps would get a little water on them which then puts it into your fuel tank. Anyways, I took and filled my truck up with Premium without ethanol and added some fuel conditioner; it has NOT stalled again.

Maybe record when you fill up your fuel tank again and from where. I am thinking that if you CANNOT repeat the problem at all and there are no codes, then maybe it could be something just as simple as some bad quality gas? The ECU of the newer vehicles will compensate and burn whatever, your mileage may be down, but it may just be something just as simple as that.

Hopefully that is all it is ....
