My 1st gen does this when reversing on inclines, I live on a hill. When I put it in drive it'll occasionally just shut off. My way around it is putting it in neutral with the emergency brake on.

Obviously. That's not what I was talking about. Low oil pressure comes up on the entire 4 inch display. Just used that to show incline.

I'll have to find some inclines to try mine out on, if it works out to get it. Hoping not to replicate this on mine.

Can you blame us for hoping it was just a misread idiot light?

Ya ya. Rub it in that we jumped on the bandwagon early... to be honest tho, I was thinking this morning as I drove my perfectly fine 2012 to work for possibly the last time and will probably think this numerous more times: "what the hell did I just do?". Here's hoping there's no regrets to come, this next one is supposed to be the vehicle I keep more than 2 years.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I am not trying to be right or wrong.
I simply pointed out that V6 engine in 2016 Tacoma looks like its not designed for off-roading and inclines. There is no right or wrong. Something is desinged for off-road or its not.
Clearly No1 pan looks to be too flat to work on steep inclines with out shortening life of the engine. Simply it looks like if you want to off-road: either get different truck, or get oil pan designed for off-roading or stay on pavement if you don't want to lose engine.
    facts are facts..
Again picture of oil pans from Toyota documents found on internet. 1GR-FE that's 2015 Tacoma, 2GR-FKS is 2016. Difference is clearly visible.
Simple test to find out if this is a problem would be:. Find a hill that is 30 degree and park your truck nose down. REV to 4500 RPM's for 3 minutes. Post the video.

Restarted it after I rolled down to a flatter spot.

Yea lets not jump on a bandwagon here. I have been unable to reproduce this, neither has the dealer. I would definitely not let this keep you from a purchase. It may have been a fluke, and just chock it up to that. On another note, I did manage to put the truck in the ditch today and had to get winched out. So much for crawl mode and lockers.
Yes, the whole 4 inch display lit up on mine with a buzzer going off.

    so BlueT,
If you had the front pointing down hill it seems in your 1gr drawing there would be an issue.
The oil passage end would be up.

Explain how that design is ok for steep down hill OR.

Seems like a $40K gamble, not to wait and see how things settle out.

We should all just ride bicycles with this advice. Every vehicle has problems, that's what the warranty is for.

What kind of bicycle tho? What if they have problems? Like a flat tire and I get stranded? Do bicycles of drum brakes?

No problems here on my 2015 go up and down hills and inclines/declines all the time. Thats kind of a silly argument and statement, not every vehicle has problems and you certainly don't invest in one to utilize the warranty. May still be a fluke though.

Not at all hence why I said "fluke", but your post was kind of a stupid comment no offense, which was the point. Not EVERY vehicle has problems, especially Toyotas in general (that whole QDR thing and why people buy them and pay a premium) and you certainly dont buy one with intentions of using the warranty.

I just pointed out that if you are worried about buying a 2016 because of one stall out of thousands there is a warranty. Was not a stupid comment at all, which is why you had to point out that your year old truck has no problems.

I was pointing out your stupid comment that EVERY car has problems, mine dosent, just like you said yours dosent, so you contradict yourself. And again people dont buy cars to go in for warranty work nor should they ignore concerns especially with lack of oil pressure with new engine designs. Guess what your warranty only lasts for so long there bud.

The warranty is only 36K miles, or 3 years, whichever comes first. It wouldn't cover a lifetime of design faults.
