OP, how did you achieve the blackout of your taillights without tinting?

 

What's the specs on the wheels? Could they have more to do with the rubbing?

Nice work OP, looks good. I'm curious like others how you got so much rub with 285s after a 2" lift yet another member fit 285s "no rub" on a stock OR suspension.

Like others have said I'm guessing it has to do with the wheels... those methods are probably much wider than the stock OR wheels. Offset is likely different as well. Stock OR's are also 16" as opposed to your 17's.

Contrary to what others may think I gave the 3rd gen credit in a lot of areas just don't like that oversized front grille but like any of the big front end trucks it looks great lifted with bigger tires much more proportional. Still on fence with powertrain with mixed reviews but 3rd gen guys are building some nice trucks for sure.

 

Hey guys, busy past few days but here's a little update with corrections on my error.

I do not have 2 inch of lift in the rear as I was lead to believe. I did not take a picture of the specific spot, but I am rubbing on what appears to be mount for the body, truck is about an hour away, otherwise I'd snap a picture.

Here's a rough mockup for the skid plate, grill and light bar mount are underway as well

 

Wheel specs per method's site,

17x8.5

offset/back spacing: 0mm/4.75"

 

Here's a previous picture where I circled the spot showing where it is rubbing, best I have for the moment,

 

yep thats the body mount, time to CMC, no worries, most of us had to.

 

Driving in a straight line with 285's, no problem, but you can't turn the wheel without rubbing, you have to start cutting.

 

Which I saw a guy who created a thread claiming NO RUBBING AT ALL on 285's stock TRD OR, wanted to call BS, but I dont own one to say so. Just find it extremely hard to believe.

 

The big thing I miss when driving the 3rd gen, is the low end torque of the 4.0L. In the 3rd gen it has to down shift and rev a little higher than you would in the 2nd gen. Once you get used to it, I have found it to be an improvement in every way. Just my opinion, others will vary.

 

Yeah and he was even offroading it. It'd be cool if it was true... I just don't know if I can believe it until I get my truck and try it

 

Had a body shop shoot black paint and clear over it. Won't fad and peel like tint and I can polish imperfections out.
