I even have a little 5X8' utility trailer, which is more or less a fullsize truck bed sans the inner wheelwells. Mainly use it for hauling motos, and other stuff... what I don't want beat to hell riding on the trailer goes in the bed. Day/weekend trips are ok, but 1-2 week trips suuuucks.

Really don't even know how guys with DCSB's do it. Even mild hardware store runs...I don't always want to take the trailer...the Tacoma 6' bed is barely enough. It does look guys who have DCSB's had a car before they bought a truck...so they really don't use the bed "as a truck" anyway.

Years ago I downsized from a fullsize 3/4 ton to the Toyotas, since they got so much better gas mileage (went from 8-10mpg in the F250 to 20-22 in the 4Runner/Pickups)...now...Toyota's gas mileage hasn't improved...fullsizes have caught up, and I am kinda out growing the little trucks. Love the things but I am not seeing any real advantages with them anymore...especially the price they are commanding now.

I don't have any step lights. The puddle lights are under the mirrors and shine back lighting up the step bars and ground around the truck. The mirrors also have turn signal LEDs on the front side.

I also have mirror spot lights, which are aimed to the sides.

I haven't seen any other accessories from Ford yet, but since it's standard E-track you could make/assemble your own. I was thinking about getting some fittings from http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Van-Trailer-Products/E-Track-Straps-Tie-Downs or similar places and build my own. Maybe a bike rack, or a bed divider. TBH I've yet to remove the cleats though.

That's where I was. I had a Corolla when I bought the Tacoma. I was tired of cramming things into a 2x3ft trunk. Then we bought a house. Even before we closed on it we needed to put $1,000 into fixing the plumbing so it would pass inspection so we could close. Every piece of copper and radiator was 8-10ft. So ALL of it hung over the tailgate. At that point (maybe 6 months into ownership) I seriously questioned getting the 5ft bed. I had originally thought it would be easier to maneuver, they didn't make an LB OR, and I don't think the LB came with a 6spd manual option.

I got a trailer, basically, just to haul my tractor around. A side use would be wood pellets, but we were already buying 10-20 bags at a time since I drove past Home Depot on the way home each day. It wasn't worth hooking up the trailer, dealing with it at work (and maybe having to travel to another office for work) just to bring a full ton home when HD didn't discount by the ton. With the F150 and being able to just have them drop a ton in the bed without screwing around I'll probably just do that.

Yeah. That would be the point to which I would agree with the trailer fiends. No way I'd accept liability driving around with that.
That means trusting way too many other people not to screw up.

    Why?

Again would be nice to see some reasoning.

You aren't worried at all about that new Taco? The 3rd Gen thread has basically become a "tell me what's wrong with your new Tacoma" section.

That right there was a huge perk I never even considered when I got the F150. It is right at the limit to what the truck is rated for (just under 2000 lbs per the specs), but it drove fine for the 8 mile trip or so.

Being able to back right up to my bulkhead and send them down the homemade slide was a godsend. Before they would deliver the tons at the end of the driveway and I would truck them around to the side of the house with a wheelbarrow.

Auto start/stop is only a 2.7 Eco feature, so I don't think many (if any) of us on here have it. I have heard it works well, and there are numerous reasons why it gets overridden, so it isn't that obtrusive. But again, I have no real firsthand knowledge.

I'm curious as well. Other may know more than I do, but would that quick shutting down and starting up again put more stress on the turbos? I know when I have always driven turbo'd vehicles, it was start it and give it a few minutes to get everything flowing and the cooling working well before driving, and when getting ready to shut it down, let it sit for a second to let them spool down before turning off the engine (that is how I still drive my ecoboost to this day).

Ford says it put in heavy duty spark plugs and starters to make up for the extra starts and stops. Don't know about the turbos.

Another reason why I don't want a boost. Extra care and maintinence I don't care to deal with. I didn't know the start stop was only a 2.7 option though. Good info.

A longbed would help. But even an f150 it would hang out of. Even with an 8 ft bed a 10 footer would stick out.

You're reading my mail. A utility trailer gives you so many more options. Mine is rated for 2200 lbs. try putting that kind of a load in your bed. It's all aluminum, never rusts and with car size tires will tow at 75 and never know it was behind you. Now, a cap goes on the truck and the trailer serves all the big load needs. Highly recommend the 9x5 bed to making loading 4x8 much easier.

You may want to go on the F150 forum to get more feedback on that. There is quite a bit of information on there.

Since I got the 5.0, I don't have the auto stop/start. Personally, if I ended up with the 2.7, I would probably have had it disabled all the time. I wonder how much it really adds to the fuel mileage. That's one new technology in cars I don't think I'd be comfortable with. Guess it shows my age.

Quoted for truth... 5' vs 6' is insignificant when you consider all the things you need racks or trailers for anyway even with a 6' bed.

You're forgetting that a DCLB or fullsize is a 24/7 commitment. When I need to go to work and drive in a parking garage I drop my baggage (6x12' utility trailer) and drive a comfortably small DCSB into the parking garage at work.

The 6' bed on the Tacoma would be nice.
I'd own it on the AC. Matter of fact...the AC looks the best to me proportionately. But, I can't deal with that suicide door and I like the larger interior storage the DC offers.
So, it's DCSB for me. And I've yet to think to myself "damn, another foot of bed and I could fit [_______]"
