Just an FYI this is probably the 6th thread on this subject. So if you want to do a search, which you should of done before posting this, you can find a lot of other ppls results.

Folks, please make a Fuelly account to log your mileage (and note your transmission/drivetrain/engine/trim). These threads are statistically useless on their own.

Good point. As soon as the 2016 ORs start showing up on fuelly this will help a lot. At this point, however, Fuelly isn't much help because the new Tacoma's aren't listed. Did anyone fill out the new model form? I was lazy and didn't fill out the new model form...I just filled in the "other" fields.

not really useless when the new tacoma calculates tank average and trip average. seems like members are posting pictures of their actual reads also.

Actually, its not. If you'd read the title before posting you'd know that.

I'm getting consistent 16.2mpg - highway and around town. Thats with me TRYING to improve the numbers via short shifting/coasting etc. I'm getting ready to switch the display to the one that shows my speed instead of the MPG screen.

At the end of the day I'm spending about $5 more a tank of gas than what I spend on our Honda CRV with manual tranny.... I'm getting a lot more that $5 worth of fun factor for sure so I'm not worrying about it, until gas goes back up to $4/gal. But then my home will be worth $40K more since I live 1 block from the train station in a large city.

This is promising. Survey results are looking more like a traditional bell curve....not much of a population sample though.

I just picked up a 2016 DCSB TRD OR AT tonight. I drove normally on a mostly 2 lane 55 MPH highway, total distance was 51 miles. My average MPG was 20.1, but I stopped for about 5 minutes idling to play with the radio. I also stopped and picked up a pizza.

Nothing scientific, just my anecdotal $.02. I'm switching to BFG KO2's in 265/75/16 on Saturday; I suspect I'll see a noticeable drop in MPG's.

The OR does not have the wind deflector which affects the approach angle. Where 40% of the trucks air resistance is the under carriage, you would expect the loss of this windscreen to affect mileage. And, the faster you go, the more it is affected. See if you can get a wind deflector to put on.......

From the dealer lot to my house in the mountains, even some snow and 4wd. Starting altitude 5K, ending altitude 9K. 22.1 mpg. There is a trick to driving these engines, they're like no other 6cyl you've driven before and you have to retrain your brain. It took me a little experimenting and will take further.

That's great! Please post your tank average when it's empty. 4K incline and 22 mpg seems almost unbelievable, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps these motors really like the thin air. I'm at 200 ft above sea level and have never seen over 18 on a tank average.

    Remember folks...tank averages.

I'm going to do a write up once I do a little more research and testing. I don't know if it's the Atkinson engine or the way it is cammed but these engines really love to run around 1,800 to 2,400 for the best fuel economy. The problem is that it sounds like your bogging and need to down shift but if you pay attention to the gauges and not your ears you will see that it's till pulling, still accelerating and you're getting great mileage. I caught myself having to hit the brakes a few times because I though that I was doing what I needed to match the speed of the car in front, but was accelerating. You could call it a little "diesel band" in the revs of the engine.

As many miles as it takes to get from Denver to Silverton so around 300. Picked it up yesterday.

Jesus Dereck! Get a few more miles and I might take you seriously. You haven't even emptied your first tank!

    ...BTW congrats.
