Reliability is a given. A proven 11-year old Toyota platform with a trickle-down Lexus engine. Versus a brand new GM platform and an unproven power train.

I equate durability with solidity. And that is not something that is TBD. The Tacoma is the more solid feeling vehicle. The C/D article even says that.

Tacoma has the edge off road, hands down. Colorado can't do tricks like this.

I'm not saying the Colorado is a bad truck. That would be lying. The Colorado is an EXCELLENT truck. GM is admittedly getting better at producing higher quality vehicles. However, I think that compared to the Colorado, the Tacoma has focused better on what midsize truck buyers want in a midsize truck. Ultimately, that is what make it the better truck.

Rusted frames is durability to you?
The GM power train has been out for years now both overseas and here in the US. Haven't had any major problems that I have heard of with it. Do some research...

Oh and congrats on crawl control. A feature I would likely never use. Especially because IF I do get a Tacoma, I would get the manual transmission.

Nah, I drove both....they're both very cool in person. I favor the Colorado. Didn't think it looked like a Malibu but, hell, if it does then the Malibu must be a sharp looking car, lol. One thing is for certain, the 3rd Gen Taco's front-end is an epic fail! Hopefully, Toyota's design team is at work fixing it for '17'/'18. As my 25 yo blue color neighbor said, "Toyota's trucks are starting to look like God damn Star Wars figures." lol

Since mine is super white, I'll go with the Stormtrooper Edition.

Emissions systems are not the same internationally. No offense, but that's a poor example too many people are using.

You can thank those in DC for that... The gas engines are the same though and that's 90% of what these trucks will be equipped with.

Where are you getting that from? From everything I've seen in English literature, Australia basically, the V6 is not available. They only offer the Diesel.

The LFX engines in the Colorado is for North America only from what I saw last time I looked it up. Even the old pre release notes for the international models only mention a 4 banger gas engine or 4 banger Diesel as the main engines.

I don't blame DC for emissions standards. I liked being able to breath okay last time I was in San Francisco even with all the traffic.

The 3.6 engine actually dates back to 2004 Cadillacs. It has gone through some changes including direct injection and different cylinder heads. It is fairly reliable, but is notorious for leaking at the front cover especially on front wheel drive applications like the Traverse/Acadia.

Why in the hell are you discussing a Glock vs. Toyota, yea I get your point of 2 reputable brands but guns vs. trucks makes absolutely no sense to compare the 2...nonetheless in a thread titled Tacoma vs. Colorado and then you have people talking about run flats that have no relevance to this topic...geez Tacomaworld sucks now....you guys hurt my feelers :(

Now they've put twin turbos on the engine in some applications. Over 400 hp. I doubt the Colorado will ever get that engine.

the side-bar "run-flat" discussion was in direct response to Toyota's reputation vs GM's, which you are going to get when comparing trucks from each dealer. If every thread stayed completely on topic it would go stale in minutes. It's not like we started talking about the weather. ;)

Yes, but the 2GR has a similar record and people are questioning it because this is it's first application in the Tacoma. To be fair the LFX engine should be treated the same. Especially since people tend to talk about tuning the engine with an aftermarket solution to get the same feeling as the 1GR, which isn't probably going to have a positive effect on reliability.

The Colorado isn't a caddy, and for a lot of us on TW we don't use our midsizes nicely.

My point was that GM is making good engines lately...simple as that. Wasn't knocking the Taco with that comment.

Elaborate on that...what does that even mean? It seems to imply that GM makes trucks to be used nicely....was that not your intent of the statement?
