You know there is a whole thread on parking next to other Tacos.....I can't play anymore though.

Gavin, does your xr not kick, or it won't start when you kick? If the latter I'd guess the stator. Common problem on older ones and super hard starting is one indicator.

Sort of a long story. I bought the bike 2 years ago, changed spark plug and performed oil change, also removed and cleaned carburetor. Never put new gas in it, even though at the time I bought it the bike had sat unused for 9 months. Managed to get it to run a few times, but due to crappy old gas it never held idle more than a couple minutes. I didn't care, I new it just needed gas.

Then, I had to move due to reasons and the bike sat in Cali for a year with no love or attention. I picked it up from cali a few months ago when I was out West and brought it back to Ohio. I tried to kick it a few times, to no avail. It then suddenly wouldn't kick. I had stupidly failed to check the spark or oil, so when i did that I realized that both had loosened themselves and I likely seized the piston. Also, a small amount of water leaked in through the spark plug hole.

My plan tonight is to pour 50/50 acetone/ATF in the spark hole, if it runs out the crankcase I'll put the right cover back on and fill with oil. I well then try to kick it with a new spark and if it runs I will do a few oil changes over the next week or 2.

Engine is currently full of acetone/atf just waiting on pink shit to start running out of the crankcase. Fingers crossed that it does soon.

This thing's innards are crazy clean for being 30-some years old..

..hardly any wear on the gears or timing chain.

    Ditto. It's so 1985 that it doesn't look 2016.

Well, I left it over night to let the acetone/ATF soak in. I can see what looks like a few drops of pink in the crankcase on the left side (I only have the right cover off at the moment.) When I take out the spark plug it looks as though the level of Acetone/ATF may be a couple millimeters lower... perhaps it is starting to penetrate between cylinder and piston. I'm considering MacGuyvering an old spark plug so that I can attach a hand pump to it. Maybe with it screwed in I could get enough backpressure to push the lubricant through the engine a bit better.

I feel like such an idiot for not noticing my oil had leaked out:facepalm: this whole situation could have been avoided if I hadn't kicked it till it seized. On the bright side, at least it didn't run till it seized. Engine didn't even fire, I realized after the fact that the spark plug was fucked:anonymous:
