Let's talk SNOW CHAINS

Ok I use snow chains for my work truck and they suck putting them on.
Just started looking into ones for the taco. Does anyone know of any improvements or easyer sets out there.
In my experience the size tire they say they fit is BS and you always need to go bigger.
They will be for nitto trail grapplers 285/75/16 any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

 

That's a nice set. What do they run a pair?

Where do you guys live that you need chains with 4X4 ?? Thanks.

 

I use them up in Canada for winter and summer . During the winter when you get a snowstorm 6 feet deep and during the summer when you want to get into the fishing hole nobody else can go

I miss Tahoe. Family owned a cabin there until we moved to Oregon.

 

I just use them for the work truck (2x4) but wanted to get two sets for the Tacoma so I never have to wonder if I can get to or from anywhere I want to go...........mostly just to play

 

These are best chains hands down. I have thousands of miles on chains, I've installed and removed chains up to two dozen times a day during winter for work. Pewag chains are hands down the best made, I've broken at least 20 sets of chains, but never broken a set of these, I've worn them down to where they're unsafe though.
The reason these chains are so great is the cams, you can make these chains super tight very easy, very quickly. Also, they have the strongest chain material, it lasts much longer than the competition. I could get 1500-2000 miles per set, this includes a lot of pavement in between snow and mud packed dirt roads.

I live in the snow in a hilly mountain town and I've used AutoTrac from Walmart (also at Sport Chalet).. they're about $70-ish and they self tighten. Really easy to put on, especially in heavy snow, without having to move the truck. They take about 2 minutes. I'm on my 4th pair due to changes in tire size, but have been using them for about 5 years and I've never had an issue. I did accidentally drive over a piece once, smashing it, but called the company and they overnighted me a new pair free of charge.

 

Front chains don't fit unless you have made some changes. I use chains quite often, but this is the first truck I couldn't run front chains on.

 

I live in NJ and go to work before they plow. I love driving before they plow. I rarely if ever felt the need for chains but it's good reading how you all use them.

 

I live in the mountains of Northwest Montana. sometimes I need chains...

 

Unfortunately, in Southern Californian mountain communities, our county only dedicates personnel to plow on demand as a storm is materializing. And even then it's usually only the main roads at first. I've gone 2 to 3 days at times without a plow touching my street, but instead leaving a 6' ice berm at the ingress and egress points to the neighborhood.
