It is good if maintained and used sanely in 4 hi. In 4 low and in ATrac, you will not notice a difference. It is fine on a boat ramp and more forgiving to abuse.

Actually I'm pretty sure the trail boss would be missing it's pretty sidesteps and front air dam, at the least, if you attempted any of the trails around here.

Yup, hence why the TruTrac is so popular. The only reason GM does not use it is cost and perception. People hear autolocker and they think of the Detroit Autolockers.

DuraTracs are awesome stock tires on the Trail Boss. That light bar has got to go though.

Yeah, the Duratracs are ok. I wish they had tougher sidewalls though. People blow them on rocks and stumps here all the time.

Agreed. Plus the real locker should you get into some sticky stuff.

BTW if Chevrolet would just bring out the ZR2 then maybe I would change my tune. The concept had full lockers and a ton of nice goodies. Not perfect, but really damn good for a stock truck. Easily the best offering for trails if it came out right from the box.

I was debating getting them for the C load rating, but reading similar complaints and about potential balance issues swayed me to KO2's.

Yeah, unless you know what you are talking about you wouldn't figure out the G80 is the locker until you had done some google fu.

If you want sidewall strength try the Cooper STT Maxx next time. It's only drawback is the weight, which does suck for in town fuel economy.

Something BFG, I can't remember which one to be honest. I do think they got rid of the rugged fails but I'm not sure.

Yeah, some guys have luck with them. I'm not knocking the tread or value for sure. It seems like to me though when someone shreds a tire or blows out a chuck of sidewall on a small rock it's almost always the guy running DuraTracs.

It is impossible to compare lab tests on the same truck to real life in different trucks. Locking differentials are good, but notice that the left wheel, not on rollers, has the stability of dry pavement. The locker looks really good. In real life in conditions slippery for both wheels, this isn't good, because it isn't safe.
If both wheels or all 4 wheels are on ice, you wan't an electronic traction aid, you don't want lockers as both wheels on each axle get unmonitored power and you loose total steerage on that axle. Toyota limits the use of it's locker for safety and reliability purposes.

My neighbor had a dedicated truck with a locker both front and rear, and ice chains. On and icy day, I passed his truck, drove my wife to work and two of my neighbors in her Subaru with studded snow tires. It had no locking differentials. Real life does not like them except in very limited circumstances...and then, just toget moving.

Exactly. Locking up on Ice is bad. Really bad. Luckily the G80 is not as bad as a Detroit for breaking static contact friction, but it's still worse than anything electronic.

With all due respect.....do you own a vehicle with a locking differential ?

I think the Fanboy is strong on here... and sadly it's not even coming from a Toyota fanboy.
