    Damn.

It's a good tire for the odd adventure on a logging road. I'm not sure you'd want to push it in a quagmire though.

I think they would of had to look long and hard to find a bigger failure of an A/T design than the Rugged Fails.

So when you speak from experience, you call it "expertise." When I speak from experience, you call it being a "fanboy." Hypocrisy is a common virtue for your type.

These are pics of me around 2003-2005 when I had my Tacoma. It was a 1996 4cyl 4x4 5speed. I bought it with 124,000 miles and sold it with 174,000 miles. I did have a few problems with the distributor cap, wiring, a few issues like that. Other than that, it ran fine. I quickly craved more power though. But it gave me a lot of nice adventures.

This is me a few years later. Had a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 4x4 Ex Cab 5cyl 5speed. It was a pretty rare combo to have the 5speed with that option package. This truck had really good power, especially with the 5 speed. With the locker and the 5 speed, I tore up those dunes in 2wd and a little lower air pressure in the tires. I got this used with about 22,000 miles and sold it about 3 years later with 90,000 miles or so. The only problem I had with this one was early on (under warranty) it had a valve issue which they fixed. (This was a known issue with many of these 1st year model trucks.) Other than that it ran great for me.

(My friend incorrectly calls this a jump. It was a hill climb that was actually pretty steep and hard to get up.)

After I read it again.....I got the message. Simple mind, simple response on my part.

Don't you find though, in slippery going, the locker is absolutely usless compared to abs devises. This is why the test isn't that valid. If one wheel is on ice, the other will at least be on snow or the like. With the rear wheels locked, you stand a good chance of facing down the hill instead of going straight.

The locking rear differential invalidates everything the traction and stability control are trying to do...that is, monitor the wheels individually and have them respond that way to maintain control....

Yeah but the locker isn't on full time either. Not the G80 anyways. You still have ABS, Traction control, Stability control, etc. You can work it the best way for you. But the locker is there in other areas or times where you may actually need it.

Yes, mostly in the conditons you discribe. Just try it out some time at the bottom of a slippery hill.....hang on when you do. It's practically useless.

You guys, both, talk like one is better then the other as though Toyota wasn't smart enough to pick up on one idea and GM the other....like they are dumb or something and can't put a similar device in. Toyota chooses to use ATrac in low range.

This simulation does not compare it to off road specific traction devices. It only compares it to the same truck. You are assuming that a Chevy without this is automatically controlled mechanical diff is a what .....a Toyota ? Toyotas have ATrac which uses a higher pressure abs system not found in Chevy trucks....
One puts the effort into a that, the other into a differential. There are significant advantages to each. It's for damn sure, the demo will not be make comparisons on equal grounds...Instead, the manufacturer will do what it has to to make their product look better.

Like I say, they have different customers. When you shift your manual one in, it disengages some of the computer assets. GM has customers that perhaps, don't to want understand the subtle differences. That you or I may nave 23 traction modes at our disposal, might be a little too high for GM customers to want to count.
I say this, not becasue any one is dumb, but because there are a lot of contractors out there using GMs that can't be bothered, time is money and they want it automatic. In the winter, I have to re explain to my wife what buttons "not to touch" when she has to d I've our truck out the snow covered road...she is a potential GM customer if she wasn't driving a Venza normally.

I think we completely agree......your last statement means a lot in that the locking differential and stability control could be working against each other. My cousin was the service manager for 5 dealerships, and he made me a believer in car makers choosing different approaches depending upon their specific customer needs. If all car makers did was copy someone else's design, they would loose a lot of customers while competing for the same market.

Grammar nazi time. I see this constantly in here so I feel like being that guy.
"Loose" and "lose" are two different words. You lose a lot when we play football. I have loose change in my pocket.

As a number one offender, I thank you.

Here is one for you...when to use "less" and when to use " fewer"
Ready; use less for quantities you don't count, like "less sex"
Use "fewer" for items you can count, like "fewer pieces of ass"

Btw, you have to put this gramma(r) lesson in the only way guys can remember anything.

I have the G80, it works very well. Very helpful when plowing....when I'm stacking and I stuff the front wheels into the pile, the auto locking for the rear as I reverse out is sometimes essential.
