P0420 Coded

    Hello Everyone

    Sorry haven't been in here for months. Yesterday my truck "Check Engine Light" come on.I went to Autozone, and got it scanned. The code:

    P0420

    Bank-1(Heated Oxygen Sensor)
    Faulty Catalytic Converter

    I've search on here about the code P0420, couldn't find any ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh,one more If I decided to do one of the above stated where would I start ? thanks

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    Start with that O2/AFR sensor. If that doesn't fix it then you have two options: new CAT or O2 simulator.

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Its not hard. Its the sensor closest to the engine on the exhaust....Near the firewall. I belive 2 10 mm bolts, and then unplug it. Its tight in there to get to the plug, so take your time.

    It's a 4, got 114,821 miles on it. This is the first time I got that "Check Engine Light" on. I was trying to see If I can fix it myself. I don't wanna take it to the stealer. Hopefully you guys and gals can help a brother out.

    That would be Sensor 2. Sensor one will be before the CAT. The code doesn't specify exactly which sensor may be bad. It just says the the two sensors are reporting very similar readings back to the ECU. Sensor 1 should be reporting a waveform while Sensor 2 is generally flatter.

    That's good n'ouf for me,sir. I just can't drive with that "Check Engine Light " on, it's irritated the craps out of me :D

    That's for the 2RZ/3RZ, The 5VZ is the same as far as the troubleshooting goes.

    I had the same code last week. and it was infact the AFR sensor. Sensor 1
    I took it out and it was sooper black and filthy. changed it out from one from RockAuto.com and it is running better and no more CEL,:)
