Well steering rack is assembled somewhere else than the rest of the truck. So trouble with rack does not mean you will have trouble with the rest.
I think it comes down to you, do you feel comfortable to keep the truck.

Its such a minor issue. Can't believe you'd even consider getting rid of it. I still wouldn't be surprised if there was no issue. Was an amount added after you bought it that was greater than the system volume? If not I am not convinced it still wasn't being filled/purged.

id keep it. its minor. shit happens

steering rack leaking doesn't mean connecting rods will break, transmission will blow, differentials will well you get the point.

True shit does happen, but a steering rack being replaced maybe even though it may not necessarily need to replaced is still crummy. Glad I was the .02% that received a shitty '16.

It’s interesting how people might handle things differently. I am picking up my truck tomorrow. If I drove it and found the power steering fluid low I would:

    1. Add some fluid and let the dealer know it was low.

    2. Post on TW that the fluid was low, not leaking, so others can check theirs.

    3. If it was low again I would search for any leaks and add more and research what the volume of the system was.

    4. If it still keeps dropping I'd keep adding until I was passed the volume amount of the system thus knowing for sure fluid must be coming out somewhere.

    5. If the level kept dropping take it to the dealer let them know more fluid has been added than the system can hold so its coming out somewhere, fix it.

I have no clue. I can look this evening but to me its irrelevant. Where the truck was put together has little to do with shitty parts used to put it together.

think about it. Made in America is exceptionally rare, at best its assembled in America, with Chinese parts...

Swimmer do you have a link to the 2016 fluid capacities? I googled it and nothing relevant popped up.

I flushed my power steering and it was only like a quart. I would assume it was pretty close to that

Drive it off a cliff and never look back :bananadead: just kidding. In all seriousness tho, what are your options other than keeping it? IMO seems like a one off incident, just because one part of an entire vehicle is bad (likely due to manufacturing defects of that part) does not mean the whole vehicle is a POS:poking:

Do they actually have a 2016 rack in stock, or are they going to install a 2005-2015 rack instead?

I thought the 16s used the same steering components as the 2nd gens. Either way, they said the parts were gonna be in tomorrow, so I would think maybe a 4 hour job for the techs, Saturday the vehicle should be ready.

Hopefully the replacement of the rack fixes the issue.

imo, I would keep the truck. Your getting a new rack. No different than if you had to replace the rack when the vehicle has many miles on it.

Well thats not bad, still sucks because you should enjoy new vehicle not start by repairing it.
I guess once Toyota moved out of NUMMI factory quality has been going down ever since.
My 07 never had any problems with exception of frame rust. Otherwise it came from factory very well put together. They don't make them as they used to.

You are making the assumption that the dealer is telling the truth.

    People lie.
    Welcome to 2015.

That's all we are saying. We live in a day and age where if you don't know anything about vehicles or take the time to do something yourself, you can't hold other's accountable for doing the job they should be doing.
I have taken my truck to a dealer and they said they would check something and I know they full well didn't and lied to my face when they said it was fine.

So are you saying they might tell me they are going to put a new steering rack not actually perform the work? Can you be more specific with your example of the dealer lying to your face please.
